Hi all - having lived in UK for three years, wondered if any states have relaxed the rules about allowing left hand drive vehicles to be imported & registered for daily driving on Oz roads. Someone told me WA was OK - dunno if true. I know they relaxed the rules in VIC about 5-6 years ago to allow owners of classic cars to avoid the angle grinder, but what about regular modern cars - eg european models that already exist in Oz as RHD. I know resale would be limited on left hook versions, but if I take one home it will purely be to keep as a regular drive. Any advice appreciated.

I have seen heaps of American classics and hot-rods driving around Perth as left hookers however it seems that by law you have to have a ginat sticker across the back of your car CAUTION LEFT HAND DRIVE

I dont know what the rules would be for new cars though.

You would have to contact the state department in question directly. It was the only way to get straight answers from the horses mouth. I did this from London when I was exporting my car to Oz. That's where I found out about mph / kph speedos. Email the questions directly to the particular state road transport authority. My answers arrived within 24 hours. :-)
