335d consumption???
Discussion
Just changed from an M3 to a 335d - only done a couple of hundred miles so far - what sort of fuel consumption should I be getting - in town it was all of 18 showing on the 'puter... and about 26 doing 80 on a motorway (car has done about 2,000 already) Seems way off from what I was expecting.

Well its certainly different - going to miss the M3 engine - but not the low speed ride. Never had an auto before so - not really got the driving style sorted on that - BUT - it is fantastically quick when its moving - seems a bit sluggish getting going - but that just be me getting used to it. Overall - its seems a good replacement - just take a bit of getting used to . But am worried about the consumption...

We had a e36 M3 Evo (manual) which the wife used for commutting. MPG was around 17-18. We changed it for a 330d auto which returned around 27 on the same journey. My wife has since changed jobs and now drives a 335d. This returns around 31-32 MPG going to and from work, the previous car, another 330d was doing similar numbers on the same journey. The 335d is the first BMW we've had where the computer tallies with fill ups and is not optomistic. On a long run we've managed just over 40MPG with "enthusiastic driving" at times.

On my 335d se coupe I see between 32-36 mpg avg over each tank. My daily run is 30 miles round trip with 10 miles urban, 20 miles on the speed restricted M42. Had a journey to Northhampton at a steady 80 the other day and showed 45.5mpg but as soon as the carrotts were given this went down to 35 ish. Like squeeze says 30/32 on a sprightly run.

I've done 1300 miles in mine and it's averaging 35.8 mpg, this has been a mix of around:
900 miles M1 / A1 - averaging around 42-44mpg
400 miles local driving on B roads or similar at around 27-32mpg
Performance wise it is quicker than an M3 once rolling. I had a few runs behind an M3 on the M1 on Saturday (reg PSYCO), and he couldn't pull a gap, I was two up (and had two cases in the car as we'd just returned from holiday) to his one and didn't even knock it out of D mode. Without the wife (she ain't heavy
) and the cases at 40kgs I think the 335d would be the quicker car and it's not even fully loosened up yet.
It goes in for a remap on Thursday so mpg should improve even further.

I went down to Southampton to see DMS recently (from Kings Lynn).
On the way there I got 38mpg, rush hour traffic to begin with then 76mph cruise control.
Return journey had light traffic and I was between 50mph and 70mph all the way.
Pic shows the results. I've managed 510 miles on a tank (pre DMS) but it was *very* low.
Very pleased with DMS and thanks to Rob for answering all my questions...

Nope - not YET!!!! Beginning to wonder if it has some problem if it is so low by comparison with others.
