AV input on MK4 16:9
Discussion
Julian - you have another pm!
Im building a pc for the car using the resler ibus interface, the ntsc video input (reversing camera connector) and an aux-in connector in the boot... will probably use car-x software
update:
a) The home brew aux-in connector is working
(remember - the std a/v audio connector is mono only the aux in is stereo!!) http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?u=http%3A%2F%2Fw...
b) Using the reversing cam (NTSC) connector for video as it is easier to control by computer (tested, working)
reserving cam and std av input here: http://www.bmwpc.de/carx/dload.php?action=file&...
c) software working but old laptop cannot reliably send ntsc so Ive bought new voom2 box, decent dc-dc psu & mini ITX board instead
car-x tested and almost working (aux setting needs changing but its raining now) = http://www.bmwpc.de/carx/viewforum.php?f=1
Car-x allows you to control the pc using the 16:4 monitor controls (and steering wheel). Requires IBUS controller from http://www.reslers.de/

Not just dvds! - any movie and audio format as well as a speed camera locator, trip meter for work and I will also use it as part of my ipod integration project. I will use wifi to update music and videos and/or just burn to a dvd.
Its all controlled by the satnav buttons so it looks and feels like a std install.
As I mentioned, using the av input is ok but you only get mono sound. If you have a video ipod - use the reversing cam input (ntsc) with the aux-in input and a switch to ground the reverse selector. All can be done in the boot (trunk if you are in the usa!).

Check out "adapter shop" on Ebay they do an AV in set of leads for about £13
which plug straight into the spare sockets on the tuner plug or you can use them in the reversing camera input
I had Car X running for a while in my Rover which has BMW Nav but running any PC in a car is not that practical, boot times, separate PSUs, crashes etc tend to spoil the experience in the end I got fed up with it.
