Now that I have some half decent cars with some real power in Forza, after 10 or so hours of real playing time, I decided to give myself a challenge and play on the hardest difficulty level, but with ABS etc left on. In the easy mode, the AI race as if they're driving on a road with schools and zebra crossings.

BUT having tried the hardest difficulty, the game is still so easy! As long as I get a good start and generally race (it's more of a Sunday drive...) correctly and have learnt the track by taking a few practise laps, I can kill the AI. All that matters is I get a clean start, and from then on, maintain my lead by not crashing or going on the grass. The extent of the AI's intelligence is to make a move by trying to overtake me. I never see the AI try to outbrake me, or slipstream me, or anything of the sort. The AI has made me spin out but that is probably more due to their thickness and predictability of not moving out of the racing line when I - a much faster driver - am actually pushing my car. If I'm racing against GT-Rs and Supras, then I expect these cars to be going at GT-R and Supra speeds!

To make things worse, I can't play online as I have a crap connection which always drops, and I want this changed but everyone in my area with different connections have similar problems, so playing online isn't really an option. Such a shame, because that is where the real competition is. frown

Does anyone feel the same as me about this?

The AI in Forza 2 is superb... the only reason your leaving them standing is your obvious getting the car advantage...

try some of the R class races and see how you get on wink

I thought the same thing myself. But surely, if I have a modified Skyline, then the AI cars should level up? Standard spec car races are the best as it is all down to the driver. I did the MR race in the proving grounds, and I had a standard Clio 3.0 v6, and I couldn't get anywhere near the 1st and 2 place cars. But even so, I didn't see much blocking or defensive maneuvres. frown

No - the AI cars are standard (though they use tuner cars) - so if your racing standard skylines in a S or U car, your going to easily win - as I said, try the manufactuer or Race car races - then you'll see how good the AI is.

They dont tend to block, but they are fantastic to race against, as they do adapt to you, though if your behind they do stick to the racing line, and will cover the inside.

As for side by side, they do give you space, but slip up your inside etc..

Ive just got to lev 32 and am starting to find it pretty tough going now, with no aids and on the hardest skill setting. Infact im not even sure where to race next as im not convinced I can win much without a lot of work!

Just finished the time trials for a bit of a change, that was a bit easy on the other hand done most first lap even if I wasnt sure on the track.

I raced some AI on the ring and one of them got ahead of me. Knowing that I had no real good opportunity to get past for a while I decided to follow him. As I got closer he would cover the line but I noticed he was pretty ragged, then after about 5 corners he actually outbraking himself covering the inside and went off.

The AI in Forza2 are fine smile (Try the manufacturers races as Fidgits suggests)

Ps. Ai "up leveling" their cars is a GT4 feature, this was always done to cover the fact that the GT4 AI was total shite. Don't get me wrong, played every single GT game to 100%, but the AI is shockingly bad.

Forza 2 AI as said is really good compared to GT (and I love GT).

The R races really sort of the men from the boys on Hard. However if you do stuff it badly, you're gone for the rest of the race. Which is more like real life. So you learn to not out-drive yourself.

Plus, I think in the early races the AI is a lot softer - I'm currently on the Proffessional, and they are tough...

Enjoy the ability to walk away from the field, I dont think it'll last wink

Oh, and you mentioned drafting in the first post - try racing on the Nissan Speedway (take your GTR and do the Supra vs Skyline challenge on there), you'll see they do draft you, and get real close, slip out of your slipstream and glide past, hugging the inside so you have to slow...

They also sometimes go off line if your trying to draft them, so you have to pass against the wall (giving them the inside!)

Hmm I actually find that most of the time the AI tries to drive straight through you rather than going around you - a few times I've been punted off on the last lap in a manner that if it were a human I'd have said was deliberate!

was it a revenge tap though?

I did notice that on the first corner having 'tapped' an opponent while getting up the inside - and having clean moves from others, when the Mclaren I had previously tapped was trying to get past he didn't give me the room of the others and did, infact, punt me off the track.. hehe

Coincidence or good programming I dont know... but something to consider wink

I had thought of this - I wonder how long the AI 'remembers' and holds a grudge in that case smile Might have to bin the game and start again!

The AI isn't all that great. I whisked through the Arcade mode so easily, I was in a similar car and they were just so muchb slower than me in a straight line, when they should have been able to keep up.

I've followed them and they brake in the strangest places.

They're okay, but by no means great.

Arcade is significantly easier than Career. Using the same car, (F430 GT) I win by miles in Arcade, but keep getting my arse handed to me* even on medium AI setting in Career.

  • Not by a huge margin - usually come 2nd or 3rd.
