Nice that I have one of the early Formula Ford engines nestling snugly in my Caterham.

The new engine has transformed Formula Ford. Nathan Freke won the 2006 Championship. The top stars now are Callum MacLeod, Linton Stutely, Nick Tandy and James Nash. The Ray chassis and the Mygale chassis are the best cars; however Van Diemen are catching up.

Mine's a 1996 engine - same basic lump though.

The old Kent Crossflow wasn't replaced as the standard Formula Ford engine until 1994. Even then, Irish Formula Ford continued with the Crosssflow for a few more years.

The Kent engine is still popular, you only have to go to the Walter Hayes at Silverstone. However parts are getting more difficult, so Premier Power are working on a "club" version of the Duratec mow used in Formula Ford.
