Driving down the A470 in South Wales today and theres a guy with what looked like a speed camera looking out the back of an unmarked burgandy vehicle. Are the Police allowed to do this??

Until recently for the Scamera partnership to receive money from the prosecutions, they had to make their devices visible.

Now the scammers are funded centrally and the new Chief of ACPO is encouraging hidden cameras, I think a few hidden traps will spring up frown

Cumbria partnership are reported as wanting to deploy hidden scams, but they are the 'Spanish Inquisition' of speed enforcement, aren't they!

Hopefully with a load of hand-made warning signs nearby.

Hope it was an ANPR. Though I somehow cant help but think that it wasnt, by his location and the way he was hiding in the back of the car. Dont they usually have marked vans with the ANPR on or am I getting it confused with the ones the DVLA use for tax discs etc..

Even under the old guidelines (and they were nothing more) they were allowed to hide them for a small %. Spin hyped the guidelines up into something else to pacify the common man.

Why? It is only the police that perform speed checks. Sometimes in the shiny uniforms and sometimes under the guise of the SCP. The SCP are the police don't be confused by the spin

We all know that a visible deterrent is much better than a hidden net to catch everyone after the event.

I know it's a bit of a wild one, but this is like letting someone run around with a knife until they stab someone then arrest them. If speeding is the murderous activity we're all constantly told it is, that's not a far off analogy. Surely stopping people committing crime is better than catching them at it. What a wonderful utopia we would live in if there were no crime, the BiB would still have a job preventing it.
