It's not likely to be as simple as finding someone familiar with "American law" as each state has its own provisions, not all of which are the same from state to state.
You need to know first and foremost which state's laws apply to the transaction. It may be that there is also a federal aspect (i.e a law that DOES apply to all of the US) but your best bet is to assume it will be governed by the laws of the state where the will was drawn.
