I have read a few of the threads on battery change and being aware of my own limitations, know I am going to end up throwing my tools around the garage in frustration, grazing knuckles and wishing I had paid someone else to do it!

etyres advertise a Varta 570138057 replacement fully fitted on your drive for £79.90. Anyone used them, should I entrust the job to a non specialist or jump start the thing and take it to the Offords?

wavey Hello matey
I just did this myself recently. Despite the fact that the most used tool in my box is my credit card, i found it very strightforward and took about 25 minutes.

But that fitted price sounds good.

Piece of cake to do - tip - draw a line on the floor to position the box correctly when you refit it.

Go on, have a go smile

(It's an "072" battery BTW)

Depending on where you are in Cambs buy the battery and I'll pop round Saturday to talk you through how to fit it....

Many thanks all. Dave - same here although most of my tools are also now blood stained from previous embarrassments! In all fairness it is only the frustrating jobs that this potentially sounds like that worry me.

Zippee - sounds like I will have a go myself - I am in Godmanchester and hopefully will survive the ordeal although if I end up in too deep, would be an fantastic offer thanks mate....

Any bright ideas locally as to the best place to source one at sensible money?

Noticed your in Cambs - well I've just had mine replaced by Kwik-Fit at their Cherry Hinton road branch.

£55 quid fitted IIRC - and that included them scrabbling around on the floor and swearing a lot to get the battery box back in place, it was a 2 man effort.

But hey, as they've done mine it will be second nature to them now.

I've also just had a puncture repaired there too - excellent service, especially from a tall eastern european sounding lad - most helpful indeed.

he did groan when I turned up the second time and say "not the bloody battery again" hehe

Not a problem - I'll be in Huntingdon that morning sorting out a couple of bank accounts so very easy to pass back to St Neots through Godmanchester. Drop me a PM if you need me.
As an aside it is a job that is worth knowing how to do just in case...

Very easy - just make sure you clearly mark the position of the battery box. You'll be there forever trying to get it back into position otherwise (says the man who marked it neatly with masking tape, which he pulled off with the batterybanghead)...

Oh, and be prepared to drill out/brutalise the rivets which the battery box togethersmash

....and don't forget to slap some sealant around the bolt heads underneath the car, otherwise a wet carpet will result!

Don't know the Varta numbers, but the Varta heavy duty (Ref: 96 Reverse) is in mine, and has been put in a quite a few others.

Trouble I found was that with dark carpets and black fibreglass under the battery, the black marker pen was almost invisible. idea Use Tip-ex instead...smile

hehe no problem - I'm in Huntingdon for 9 on Saturday so the morning would be better should you want me and I can time it with my return.

Disclaimer - I've removed and refitted mine several times but make no promises for any numptyisms that I may/may not do should you make the call. It ios a very simple job though and worth knowing how to do yourself.

Many thanks mate - just got to find one locally at sensible money now - had a quote of £90 for the battery already rolleyes

A few places are quoting different batteries to an 072 - do I ignore and stick with an 072?
