I'm considering starting a business, and sorting out a website. The details won't be listed here, just yet!

I'm trying to secure a domain name, but I'm toiling over 2 options. One is the name of the website, which loosely relates to a made up character, e.g.

www.monkeyboy.co.uk

the other is to put "the" at the start, e.g.

www.themonkeyboy.co.uk

I prefer it without "the", my wife thinks it needs the "the"

What do you think?

p.s. the character is NOT called monkey boy. That was just an example

Prefer without as it is snappier but as Rico said buy both anyway as a backup - only £3 a year or something.

Buy both, and may I suggest you use Jamie Beestons Register one to do so..... easiest computer related task I've ever done.
(seeing as he didn't advertise himself with his post I will)

Cover yourself and buy both. When you set up your URL forwarding you can have it so anyone browsing to either address is forwarded to the same site.

I would consider investing £200 or so on the shortest possible domain name taht is suitable for your business. But only consider it. It's not always best but worth checking out. I am a domainer myself and normally use www.acorndomains.co.uk but the best place to find a domain for sale is www.sedo.co.uk

Otherwise, get both the domains that you mention in your op. It may well pay to buy all the top level extensions, ie .com, .co.uk, .net and .org so that you've every chance of having your domain dominating the 1st page of Google.

Good luck.
