I have had enough of my old Land Rover Discovery and my next car I was thinking about getting was a X type Diesel, could anyone give me any advise on what to look out for and what the good and bad points are regarding them I love the look of them but my beloved wife thinks they are an old mans car, any advise would be great,
Thanks

I had one as a company hack for a bit, it's a better looking, more cramped version of the Mondeo (old type) with a variable geometry turbo, mine had leather but cock all else, really basic. The turbo gave instant response and the interior was nice, that's about it

Yes - 2.0D is quite quick, in the right spec is a good drive, and gives good MPG (44+). 2.2D is quicker and has 6spd box so economy is as good. Coming from where you are... any extra mpg will be an improvement hehe

Go for a dark colour metallic (Quartz/Platinum) sport spec with the stiffer suspension and you'll have very desirable car. All the Mondeo references are from the wholly uneducated on the most part. Certainly No mondeo I've been in can match the ride comfort, suspension control or NVH.

If you really wish to know some detail, the rear suspesion design is largely carried over from CDW162..... That'll suitably vex the anti X-Type zealots that troll the forums.

We have the 3Lt Estate X Type, a great car, like driving on rails in the wet.

We do also have an XKR as well, so I do like my Jags and a turn of speed.

Why not buy a 'proper' Jag and plump for an S-Type 2.7 TDV6 Sport. With the XF due, dealers are looking to sell off their stock. Bargin time??

If not, go for the 2.2D X-Type, but they are only manual and not AWD.

Must say we had a 2.2 on demo for a few weeks and it was an absolute pleasure to drive, completely surprised me, I would seriously think about buying one, and I never thought I would say that !
