Hi all - looking for opinions.

I had a tear in the rear screen of my Chimaera, so I replaced the rear section with 2nd hand, however it doesn't really fit properly and the centre section is now quite grey, thanks mainly I think to Renovo colour restorer which I'd never use again!

So, I've decided to get a full new hood but I'm wondering whether to stick to black or go for green.

What do you all think?

I'm thinking of a green one from

http://www.carhoodsnorthern.co.uk/tvrchimaera.htm

Or if it's black then there's also

http://www.carhood.com/tvr.htm

or

http://www.carhoodsdirect.co.uk/catalogue.php?view...

What does everyone think of black Vs green and has anyone any experience of any of these coys?

I think you should stick to black, if its the wrong shade of Green it will lose the great looks of your car

I've been asking myself the same question for when the time comes! First I was sure a change to green from black was a great move... then I changed my mind and think on balance the black contrasts well.

I just think the green would look a bit insipid, a bit samey, less 'sharp' But crackedfinger is right, IF you go for green - it doesn't have to match exactly the shade of green on the car.

I have a green roof on my starmist green Chim, see profile, looks so much nicer than black IMHO. It feels more complete to me. I know what you mean about the renovo, likewise will not be using it again.biggrin
Can you tell me what price you have been quoted for the green hood and whether it is supply and fit or supply only, Cheers.

Are those prices of £250 for 'front and rear sections' including re-covering the hard top section (or replacing it even). If so this looks quite a good price given the quotes I've seen on here for simply re-stitching - or am I missing something?

Bugger it!! Mine's Starmist green too (see profile) and having seen V8 Devil's I've flipped back to my original thought that the green top looks great!! Mike, was it green from original or did you have that done? Nick.

Nick, as far as I know it was green from original, I've had the car for 3 years and haven't as yet had it done. When I was looking for a Chim I looked at several with black hoods and then saw this one with the green roof, it just looked right.
Did you get a price for the green roof replacement? biggrin

Not yet but the three listed at the beginning of this thread look worth asking. Mine's not in bad condition and not ready to be replaced. The fit is great, no leaks and hardly any wind noise compared to some I've heard. I think the condition of the back window will be the final decider. It's just one of those thoughts along the lines of "are there any things I could change to improve they way it looks".. and the roof colour was and now is again high on that list!

Thanks for opinions and pictures chaps. I think I'm leaning towards green now.

Prices quoted were £295 incl Vat & postage from www.carhoodsnorthern.co.uk for green, black or a range of other colours. This includes material for the targa section.

The other 2 where approx £300 and £325 incl Vat but not post. Unfortunately I don't know if these are all of the same quality, but there's also BAS (see other thread on new hoods) who apparently supply the the material to most manufacturers. They quoted £311 for the rear section and £43 for the targa section incl Vat, for a range of colours. Carhoodsnorthern claim to get their material from BAS.

These prices are for supply only obviously. I've no idea what you would pay to have them fitted as I'll probably have a go myself, now that I've seen it done once.

I think these 3 places need to get their act sorted out.
I just phone northern hoods and they said just for the rear fold down section it would be £280 + vatand one of the other places said it would be £180 + vat for just the folding section.

That's odd. I was quoted via e-mail from Carhoodsnorthern £295 incl Vat & postage for black or green mohair, both sections.
Who was quoting £180 + VAT for just the rear section as that's V good? The other prices I've quoted above are from the coys. websites.
