It seems if someone posts a web link and surrounds it with the URL and /URL tags it doesn't work. The system puts www.pistonheads.com/gassing/ in front of it. I think I mentioned this before when it was just simple links but the bug is still there if they use URL formatting.

eg.

www.bbc.co.uk

seems to require the http:// bit else it thinks it is just a relative link.

http://www.bbc.co.uk  works ok.

Typing www.autocar.com works fine. It's if someone put the URL tags around a weblink that it goes funny. The URL tags need to be removed as they aren't needed or fixed smile

Though not all web addresses start with "www" which is a way of spotting if an external link, though it does also pickup "http" at the start

For example tinyurl.com/2sczmo will not work, but www.bbc.co.uk will, but then again http://tinyurl.com/2sczmo will work...

So really the only advantage of keeping it is for those that would prefer to put text with a link.. this is what I am having for tea which I think is still worthwhile, especially in the Wikis

I've noticed variable effects with implied links recently, although perhaps it was during the development period. Sometimes implied links were not being picked up despite starting with www or http:

If I notice it again I'll post a link to the thread in question.

(This is under firefox, BTW)

Edit: There's an interesting little quirk. If you type just http: like above then it creates an implied link to the current thread. Holy Recursion, Batman!
