Discussion
This is the read out from my ECU. Its a 2001 996TT with 41k on the clock.

41,000 recorded miles over 6 years seems fairly low. However, perhaps not particularly unusual if it has been used as a weekend toy... I guess there is very little chance that it has been clocked? I'm not aware of many reports of Porsches being clocked but I don't know if this goes on at all. Some other insights you can glean from the data...
The engine hours counter shows 1,168hrs. That works out at a mere 35mph (Miles Per Operating Hour)! I'm not saying that this is necessarily unusual given todays traffic but if I had a weekend plaything, I would hope to average more than 35mph in it! 35mph might indicate that it was used for commuting, 50:50 in town versus open road stuff. 1,168hrs divided by 60 months(over 5 years) = 20 hrs use per month. Was the owner driving 30mins each way to work each day for 5 years at an average speed of 35mph?
Regarding Rev Range activity...
(from the durametric website) The 6 ranges can be broken down as:
Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM
Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM
Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM
Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM
Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM
Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM
51,585 revolutions at an average of 7,400rpm means the motor has spent 7 minutes in this zone during its 1,168hr operating life, or 0.01% of the time. Nothing really to be worried about I would say and perhaps more confirmation that this car might have been driven by Miss Daisy's chauffeur for most of its life.
The Rev range 2 activity represents aprox 20 seconds at approx 7,600 rpm. Again, probably not an issue however both records could hide some abuse particularly if all of those minutes or seconds were run consecutively and when the car had old, cold oil in it - but you can't tell this from the data I'm afraid!
I'm afraid that's the main limitation with respect to these Rev Range activity records - they only tell you when the last time was that they were added to (at 1,141hrs and 1,111hrs in this case). This is relatively recently, given that the total operating hours counter shows 1,168hrs.
These results could indicate that the limits have been breached gently, on many occasions over the life of the car but it could also hide the fact that a mere 27 operating hours ago, some nutter ran it from cold to at 7,499 rpm for 7 minutes continuously for a couple of laps of Nardo whilst running on 95 RON with a splash of diesel in there for good measure and with Mazola instead of Mobil1 in the sump! (Not trying to scare you or anything!)

In summary, it would to good to hear from previous owners as to how they used the car to help rule out the chance that it has been clocked but the most important thing would be to do a Henry, and buy-on condition!

Not how I understood the info, but perhaps I'm wrong...
The example was for a Boxster and generally (see the 'used car' link on durametrics website) range 1 are redline ignitions and range 2 are overrevs....
Average mph figures are generally anything between 30-50mph.
That is my understanding, range 2 ingnitions are ones north of the redline. The example was for a Boxster and generally (see the 'used car' link on durametrics website) range 1 are redline ignitions and range 2 are overrevs....

I thought that the range ignition hours tells you how long ago it happened as well, but may be wrong on that.
Personally I would see a lower average speed as being an indication that the car had been clocked, that is reduced mileage and the same running hours. I agree that the range 30 to 50 is about right, especially in the south east, my 996 is currently at about 40mph
