'03 Audi A3 TDi Sport - No ignition - Electrical cut off?

Your assistance is required.
I have an Audi A3 TDi sport 2003 model - last of the old shape.
I am in the process of replacing the front spring which has broken - ( @ 30k miles - not impressed!)and it appears whilst the car is still jacked up that there is no igntion of electrics whatsoever?
Is there some kind of cut-off switch that becomes activated?
Obviously the only electrical items touched so far is the brake sensor - seems im missing something here? Have been in the boot for the locking wheel nut key but thats your lot!
