Hi there,

I’ve always been interested in landscape photography and was wondering what was involved to turn this into a small part time business?

I work a normal 5 day week, Monday to Friday and will continue to do so. I enjoy hillwalking and getting out into the countryside at the weekend and have taken some nice photographs albeit with a cheap camera. I never thought about developing this into a small business before now.

Any advice on the potential market for good quality landscape photographs, equipment recommendations, set up costs, etc would be welcome.

Thanks and all the best.

Martin.

Have a chat to Steve (GetCarter) here, as he has some stunning images available on his site.

I also dabble - my site is in my profile.

Feel free to PM me.

Warning. You'll not get rich wink

I've been/am in your exact position and have finally set up as a business - for a tank of diesel a month, if nothing else.

It's made doing what I love even more fulfilling.

And have recently landed a deal at local high-end salon to have my work on display there, and available for sale.

A website would be your first step - don't waste any money - there are people out there who have already done the work for you - e.g. www.photium.com. My website combined two programs - still DIY. See what you think - not what people tell you (about DIY).

So much to say!! Just know that you're on the precipice of a very exciting stage in your photographic career - PM me, lest I write a tome here and now.

P.s. You do NOT need any special or expensive equipment (my collection notwithstanding!) - but you will need an SLR of some description. Even 'rubbish' lenses are pretty good these days. If you love what you do - then that WILL show through your image-taking - and that is what people will 'buy'.

Of course there is technique and skill involved - but nothing that can't be learned or honed. You may be one of those 'wasted naturals'!

In a 'saturated' market - there are still myriad ways to create a niche where the competition is less.

There's nothing like positive feedback from people viewing images that would otherwise have ended up in a drawer under your bed - or lost in your computer somewhere.

PM me - would love to walk a fellow hobbyist/aspiring professional through some of the journey.
