Cost is £176 per year and as far as I am aware it stays with the vehicle but it obviously changes ownership to the next owner if the car is sold.

Hmm, thanks - I decieded to ring up Porsche UK - wondering as I have a Non-UK supplied car they might tell me to get lost - but they didn't, but they refered me to Cobra, who said it's 200 pounds a year - sodding rip off compared to others - I was told when I paid the deposit that it would not be coming with a VTS so I aranged for an RAC one to be installed at the suppliers address - which I have now cnacelled.

The plot thickens though as I'm told UK supplied cars come 'prepared' for the VTS unit - but this is fitted by the dealer - ergo who going to fit mine as it's not coming though an OPC dealer?

The other things to watch are false alarms....think you get 4 free and after that I think it is £10+ per false alarm.

Ohh that's interesting - what happens if I take the car ferry alot to the Isle of wight? is there a procedure to follow - when I had a tracker fitted to a previous car I rang them up everytime i got on the ferry which was a bit of a pain however after a while I forgot to do it - but they never rang me to say - your cars' been nicked - or moving with the ignition on?!

I've heard that but I don't think it's the case. I've had well over 10 false alarms since January - forgetting to take the widget with me - and nothing's been mentioned yet.

You give them a call and ask for it to be put into 'Transport Mode' - also do the same for 'Service Mode' if the battery is likely to be disconnected so a 'tamper' isn't logged.

Yep. A right royal pain in the 'arris. Probably a good tracker but it gets on my tits.

I must confess I was gobsmaked to be asked for an extra £200 for the first years subscription on a brand new £85k car, I didn't even know about it until actually collecting the car!

I can understand why Porsche have chosen to fit it as standard (costs us all £980-ish quid within the list price.) but this a compulsory purchase & Tracker, Trackstar etc are all cheaper to buy, fit & subscribe to.

Because it is a compulsory purchase, I think the first years subscription should be included within the purchase price of the new car & I told HO exactly that, they said blah blah... hard luck!

Mutter, chunter!

It isn't a compulsory purchase, at least it wasn't when I bought mine in January - you can have it deleted from the spec & save yourself £980.

I guess they figure if you can afford £85k for a car then you can stretch to £1k for the tracker and £200 per annum will be loose change.

I had it fitted because I couldn't get insurance without it.

It is on the GT3 the car in question!
If you chose it on your 997 over the other options that is fine, GT3 owners didn't get a choice!
It is not a case of whether you can afford it or not, with a compulsory purchase on an £85k car the first years subs should have been included IMO!
