They were £22K when new IIRC.

I've seen an interesting conversion; an R7/1 with an R1 motor to replace the 750 and complement the race suspension.

Worth every penny.. maybe the best limited production jap motorcyle ever?..id have one over an RC30 anyday..

you must remember Haga on the R7 battling with Edwards for the title in 2000, only losing about because of his alledged drugs ban.

Sadly they only came with 100BHP as standard, de restrcition is a complicated and costly affair with only Yamaha race kit doing the job.

They also had a bit of a weak crank from what i remember...

I've got my flameproof jacket at the ready.

I think if you have a nice big garage to put your classic exotica then its worth having and maybe take it for the odd trip up goodwood in the next 20 years.

But to ride regularly in Stock form i think it will be a disappointment compared to the latest litre superbikes.. And considering you could have an F4 MV Augusta and have change i dont think its worth the money.

It'd sit happily in my display garage next to a Desmosedici RR. With these things, you're can't look at the sum of the parts, you have to look at the whole.

It would/should be around 15-17K I`d have thought...anyway..they do have their fans ..& racers who have ridden them rate them very highly...It needs the Ray Stringer R1 conversion in my book...too complicated trying to race kit it etc...How much better can it be over a K6/7 GSXR 750...? not much I reckon....nice bike though indeed.
lovely, lovely turbo Busa in the classifieds too....cloud9

this is possibly one of my favourite bikes ever, would i buy one?, no i wouldnt, a modern 600 will be just as quick and also lighter, and after the very very expensive race kit a modern GSXR 750 will still beat it, if i won the lottery though i woul have one in my garage, over a Desmodici RR in fact.

Thats my feeling.. A fantastic bike to own but things have moved on in the riding department just like the old YZF750R SP and ZXR750-RR's etc of old....

I would love it to look at, in my living room next to my Ducati SP5 & RC30cloud9 - Tbh i would be reluctant to put miles on a bike like that..shame to ruin.

(Then again, i bet she's begging for a damn good thrashing!)evil

The race kit is pretty rare these days and even with it the motor will be very peaky. Probably will need a kit loom/ecu as well. Great looking bike but time moves on. WOuldn't pay 20K plus for a curiousity myself when 7K will do the job probably better!

MCN reckon that the +25bhp kit is £750 and the +55bhp kit is £10,000. I would guess with the +55bhp kit it would give pretty much any bike a run for it's money at the cost of being very difficult to ride

10k??? and i take it the possibility of snapping a crank still remains?

Lets face it, its an awesome race bike but its really not worth trying to get one to compete with the best as a road bike.

Certainly feel free to pop one in my garage for occasional runs out next to the NR750!!! biggrin

Well, yeah - nice, with a bit of history and stuff to it, but...

wouldn't you be better off with a spanking R1 and £12k change in your sky-rocket??

(it looks just like my old 99 R6)
