First proper drive in 6 months
Discussion
It's been a long road to getting the Griff back on the road. But now it's there - taxed, tested and everything.
I went out for a run last night to gather some much needed data for doing the mapping. There's a lot of work to do here as the car drives very differently to before - the power band is hugely different and the idle draws about half as much vacuum as before - so I know the map must be wrong in a lot of places. Thanks must go to Rob Robertson from v8d for very subtly steering me to the H404 cam and the higher compression
. I'm sure it's the right choice for the car and the right choice for me. (Hopefully it'll be the right choice for Nic too!) It'll take a bit of time to get everything right, but so far, so good...
The new suspension really impressed me. I had no idea what to expect as I'd asked Joo for a "tarmac rally spec" Griff - ie a B road monster. I knew what I wanted, and knew it was extremely difficult given the constraints imposed by the Griff chassis, and so did Joo (specially given some of our discussions and the caveats that were supplied with the kit
) But he's delivered just what I asked for - a Griff that rivals my STi Type RA on B roads in the dry. It's a comfortable ride too. The down side is that I have to run the suspension quite a bit higher than before, so the car looks a little odd.
There's more tinkering to do now I have some information to work with, so the only thing that can happen is improvement. One thing's for sure - the car as a whole package feels "right" and at home on the IOW. As good as it was, it's never really done that before.
