e39 auto/brake issue

Just come back from a drive and doing the obligatory 3 point turn and discovered that if I put my foot on the brake in either Park or Neutral there is an audible click it feels as if something is touching the gear selector as I press the pedal down. Has this sort of thing effected anyone else, and is there a quick and easy solution?

Is that not just the noise of the gearbox effectively unlocking so as you can engage gear? My guess is that it is doing its job as normal but has become more audible over the years.

No, don't think so! If I place my hand on top on the gear selector and press the brake pedal at the same time I can free something seemingly touching the gear selector itself!

sounds like the pin by the gear shift is being disengaged so that you can move the stick to N, R, D or P.
nothing to worry about it does it on mine too. i have a 530 sport.

BTW try moving the gear stick from N to either D or R when the brake isn't pressed and it won't move because of that pin.
