loud pop and white smoke!!

Got the tuscan out this afternoon, had a small drive to the local and when I got back in, all ready for a saturday afternoon blast, turned the key and the loudest pop and white smoke from the engine and white smoke out my cans. with my mate grabing the fire extingusher out the pub while I got my bonnet off (1st time I have seen my engine). Smoke had cleared, no fire(thank the man upstairs)and nothing out the ordinary. Pushed my luck and turned the key, started first time and alot quiter than before, running sound. Any ideas??

It could have been a couple of things. It may have simply been a back fire through the inlet system caused by vapour lingering around or maybe an inlet valve stuck open momentarily. Most likely the former and probably no harm done.
