Too many speed cameras say motorists
ANGRY motorists have criticised authorities for flooding High Wycombe's roads with speed cameras.
A series of mobile speed detectors have been spotted about the town in recent weeks, manned by police officers.
But Chiltern Vale Police has refuted claims there are too many cameras, saying the policy is part of a joint partnership between themselves and local councils to cut road traffic accidents.
Chris Seroxton, manager of the council roads partnership, told Midweek: "Fixed cameras are located in places where there are accident histories, but their positioning is determined by suitability, in terms of power supply, and visibility, and so are therefore restricted.
"The idea behind the mobile cameras is to maintain that element of not knowing where we are going to be. Some drivers wise up to the fixed cameras.
"We are intent of reducing the number of deaths and serious accidents."
Midweek reporters managed to get a snap of officers on the London Road near the Drake Hotel on Tuesday, after motorists complained to Midweek. The Drake Hotel is a stone's throw from a fixed camera by The Rye.
Danny Baxter, of Underwood Road, High Wycombe, said: "It's a bloody cheek. They put cameras in places to catch us out. If they're going to keep fining us for driving 5mph too fast then the least they can do is scrap road tax."

"Some drivers wise up to the fixed cameras"...oh i get it.
It means that we no longer play the game by your rules by getting caught on the bastard things, so, you decided to change the goalposts to try and max out on the revenue by hiding yourselves!
Safety? WHAT SAFETY???????? Pricks!

I think this is a very revealing comment and demonstrates a very worrying reversion to flawed thinking. If you want to stop accidents, why hide mobile vans?
If they were really serious about reducing accidents on the London Road, they should remove the bus lane. There was another serious accident on Thursday evening which was apparently caused by a boy racer using the closed bus lane as a dual carriageway and clipping the car in front when he swerved back in to negotiate a narrowing of the carriageway where some lights have been installed. This sort of thing happens all the time.
Edited to add that when I talk of "This sort of thing" I mean the use of the bus lane as a dual carriageway, not the accident. The normal result is rampant road rage and very fast moving traffic, rather than serious accidents.

So nothing to do with Road Safety, and Accident Blackspots then ?

The Police want motorists to speed up after passing the Gatzo's so they can generate more cash !!
