Is it ok to run the wire out from the lighter through the top of the window (996TT) ?

It seems quite tight, when the window drops and closes on it, but can't think of anywhere else it can exit the car to the mains.

Cheers.

are you sure the lighter works with the ignition off? Mine doesn't. I put the trickle charger straight onto the battery on my 993 and shut the bonnet with no problems.

leave the window slightly ajar (assuming its garaged) - my 997 has the porsche charge-o-mat and its a great piece-of-mind accessory.

Same here - charge-o-mat. Will leave the window down a fraction.

Cheers !

With all the mention of trickle chargers; how long can you leave your P&J (996 C4) without worrying about trickle chargers and flat batteries. I know the alarm winds down a bit after 5 days or so but Noddy hasnt moved for about 3 weeks now and may be a week more before I take it out??
Thanks

I would get a charger then, if its not started for weeks on a regular basis.

I picked up mine for £35 from an OPC, my barn has power so I just plug it in whenever I know its not going to be driven for several days or even weeks.

Thanks. Normally he is used at least once a week but been away on hols for effectively 3 wks and not going home to his lair for another 5 or so days!

Dont have a problem from one weekend to the next but sometimes it is for 2 or 3 weeks. No longer normally.

I've just bought a battery maintainer for my 993. Lighter on mine works with the ignition off so will plug it in that way with the window open a crack. Seems strange that your lighter is not wired the same way given that we've got similar vintage porkers.

The cigarette lighter in my 993 is also live with the ignition off.
