Kev,
Left your number at work mate and can't get mail at home - just to let you know I had a stinker with the ball joints today (see balljoint thread) and although I got the car back together I can't make it tomorrow as my visitors have decided to come earlier - catch up with you soon.
Cheers
Graham

AHA the two men I need to talk to and on the same thread...
Graham - sorry to read of you difficulties with the ball joints, I have to say I had no problem fitting mine during the winter refurb and they lined up with the old witness marks and had more adjustment if I had needed it - it was a Q&H as well ???
Pity you could not make it to the meeting and thanks for the text, That kinda made my mind up what I would do today...
I decided to swap my alternator for the one that Ken so kindly gave me when we met at Snake Pass a couple of weeks ago. mine was not giving me an ignition light (unless the small connection was manually earthed) and the charging would not start unless i blipped the throttle well over 4k - not something I wanted to do each time I started from cold. So I cleaned yours up Ken (it was well preserved anyway
) and swapped em over. I now have the ignition light on switch on which goes off around 1500-2000 rpm - result
After that was done I took her for a blast which although I really enjoyed after being laid up for as long, I could feel a hesitancy when accelerating... my guess is I need to have the timing sorted after my sparkless remedy - I removed the dissy and when I refitted it I set the marks at 12 deg per the Sierra manual, but I think I saw somewhere I need to change from 12 when using premium grade unleaded... I'll do a search.
So Thanks Graham for inspiring me to do the change and of course cheers Ken for the alternator which you can see I have put to good use., I'll get the timing sorted and make arrangements for another Snake Pass meet...
