TMS racing Griff
Discussion
I'm glad to say that after a hard day's pounding around Bruntingthorpe airfield our Griffith managed a credible 5th in class placing at Oulton park on Monday in the 750 motor club roadsports championship. All that we did from the track day to the race was to put the race tyres on and fill it with fuel!
It just goes to show that with a very close to standard Griff with just a set of Nitron suspension on that it can consistantly get 5th's and 6th's in a race series that includes some mega-power cars from the likes of Morgan and Porsche.

Ivan,
Saw the car there whilst spannering for a couple of the Locosters. Very nice too and brought a tear to my eye with fond memories of my old 500.
Regarding Roadsports, what are the basic reg. requirements? Am considering giving the Morgans/Porsche/Cobra a good hiding in the GTR?
Will check the 750MC site in the meantime.
Good luck for the rest of the season!
Hi, Guy's. Nigel was right about the Nitrons. £1370 inc. VAT and fitting. Stig - I'm not privvy to the regs but take a look on the 750MC website and have a look. The Porsche that we race against is roumoured to have around 500bhp and the 2 Morgans are ground up racers.
We know the David Gerald car is on Spax but Paul and the esteemed Steve Guglielmi find the Nitrons a good set-up so who am I to argue?

Ivan, I heard that a recent engine rebuild to that Porche cost 37k!!!
Morgans looked good. Running a John Eales V8 I see.

EEEEKKK no wonder we can't beat it with a standard 500 which is estimated at 280bhp!
That Morgan is a seriously quick car...
When you stand next to the Griffs they sound as you'd expect, ie loud and lovely but you can't hear them when spectating for the rumble of the Keith Ahlers Morgan. In this case noise seems to equal speed...
It's always good to see the Griffs beat the Lotus's which they both seem to be doing regularly this season. I saw a nice battle between the David Gerald car and an Exige at Snetterton (just so I can't be accused of bias the TMS car romped away that day!)
As far as regs go I'm not privvy to the ins and outs but I believe one of the main criteria is that the car has to be capable of being MOT'd which means you can't decat newer cars , I don't believe you can do too much with the displacement and you can only change the wheel sizes 1 inch from the original specs. I guess the best thing to do would be to collar one of the folks at a meeting and chat with them.
I know the David Gerald boys are friendly enough and I'm sure the TMS boys would be the same.
Cheers

Have had a gander at the regs. It looks as though I'd have to apply for inclusion with the GTR, as it will depend whether they'd view Ultima as a 'sports car' manufacturer or not?
If yes, then in theory it's straightforward. Trouble is, a lot of the regs refer to 'standard' specs of the vehicle in question. By it's nature, whilst there is a basic 'factory spec' GTR, they supply cars in all manner of configurations?? So are these standard too?
Other than that, I should be laughing

Your not allowed to beat the Morgan's in roadsports - it's against the rules - has no one told you?
TWIN T said: Yeah I think someone has mentioned that one! Mind you Paul is not known for adhering to the rules (both on and off the racetrack!).
I do hope so, would love to see them get a good thrashing.
But if you do beat them watch out for "using an engine in a Griff" being made illegal in next seasons rules

Make him jog around the circuit in a couple of bin bags. We used to run around a judo mat in a couple of bin bags when we weighed in too heavy for a fight, works wonders. I guess the downside would be he'd need 24 hours to recover so perhaps not eh...
How about a sensible suggestion, depending on what you've done already, could you get lighter wheels and strip out any sound deadening that may still be left lurking. Then there's light weight windscreens... You've probably done this already though...
