I was recently driving along the M4 in S.Wales and have received 2 speeding tickets one for doing 85mph at 11 am and one for doing 81 mph at 11.30 am, i remember seeing the mobile stealth tax spy vans on the hard shoulder but thought that a: around 80mph was o.k. and b: as i was going the same speed as everyone else i would be o.k.
Am i wrong in thinking that 80 mph is ignored by the police. it looks like it.
also i think 2 fines and 6 points is a little excessive for this, what are my chances if i appeal ?
I already have 3 points (also from a camera) from doing 38mph where a road changed from a 60 limit to a 30 limit.

Oh ar$e, lucky you're still running it in.

Not sure how you stand legally, but I remember a similar post recently. I think you can claim it as one offence? No doubt someone will come along and correct me.

There was a case some time ago, I seem to remember, where a guy appealed a string of NIPs which were all from the same stretch of road (M5, Avonmouth roadworks) - 4 cameras in a row.

I think he got it down to one fine / 3 points as it was effectively "one offence" that happened to be spotted 4 times.

Worth a try?

Where these vans actually parked on the hard shoulder or on special lay-by areas? If on the hard shoulder itself my inclination would be to phone the police and report a vehicle in a dangerous place. The hard shoulder is, I understand, an exceptionally dangerous place, and probably made more dangerous my the presence of a Talivan causing free-flowing traffic to brake hard.

Quite how the "safety partnerships" can make the accident records on motorways, which apparently are the safest roads, sufficent to justify cameras is a different question.

Mind you I have no doubts that on a motorway with renown rush hour queues ne can get accidents caused by people running in to the back of stationery traffic. This then enables a speed limit of 50, which can then be enforced on a Sunday when there is no danger of queues!

can't remember where they were parked, nice idea though. I will try and claim as one offence, suppose i can't really argue with 85. They must have made a bloody fortune that day.

First thing is to not sign the NIP. This will hopefully get them both thrown out. Whatever, it sounds like you want to go to court to argue your case that they should be treated as one offence. If that is the case make sure you do not accept their kind offer of 3 points for each NIP.

Just a thought - is it actually legal to park on a bridge? Must admit I've never really looked at whether there are yellow lines on most of the ones I see vans on - must check and make a note, so I can issue my own parking tickets or better still clamp the f@ckers!
