..the mother of all time wasters when your selling your bike.
A couple of days ago I got this guy who's all interested and seems serious. We spoke for an hour on the phone while we discussed everthing from bikes to his collection of cars and at the end of the conversation he had made it clear that he wanted the bike. I told him the price was not negotiable and he was happy with it. I told him that I would also put off two trade dealers which wanted it on Saturday, in favour of selling the bike to a 'genuine' biker that would not just buy it to sell it on (well we do get attached to these don't we?). He agreed to come down on Wednesday with a van and pick up the bike. Great I thought - sad to see it go but at least its sold. I also tried to send some hi-res pictures to him but his ISP would not take them so I sent him a free google account to allow this to happen.
So today I get a text message..
What a prize bell end and time waster. Why don't people just say sorry mate I cannot afford it? Or better still why do they go through the whole episode of ringing up about it in the first place? Do these people not have lives??

Hardly, sounds like he only took up an hour of your time and changed his mind. Maybe he decided it wasn't worth it after all.If the traders were offering the same amount then the choice of offering it up to a private buyer who hadn't given you a deposit was slightly nuts.

Traders offered £4k and £4.5k respectively. The point that got my goat up was that we had already agreed the price and that it was going to be picked up on Wednesday. Its not your average bike and I got quite attached to it.
I've had a shit week with one thing and another and this is just the latest in a string of unavoidables (new word there see).

Your case is sadly quite common: when I was selling my XJR1300 I had a guy call and agree to come and view at 11:00 the following Sunday - he never showed and never contacted me again. No reason whatsoever, just obviously changed his mind but didn't have the courtesy to tell me. Hence a wasted morning waiting in for the wr
Then there was a guy who called and was super keen to have it - happy to pay full asking price and was desperate to buy. He had to sell his Thunderace first, but apparently his mate in the Navy was going to buy it on his return to UK in a couple of weeks or so. He then called me 2 more times over the next 2-3 weeks to confirm I still had it, and that he definately wanted it. Never heard from him again either. So if it's any comfort, you're not alone. I found the same thing when selling my Corvette - for every genuine person, there are 2 or 3 idiots.
