I'd always get a full face lid. It'll help reduce the chances of you eating your steering wheel in a head on. If you're racing tin tops get one that you can fit a peak to and remove the visor 
You can then revert back to the visor for open top later if you want.
I use an Arai GP5K with a peak and hans in a coupe and can put the isor back on and remove the peak when I'm in a Caterham.

if you want the advice i read from 'Doc Dave' who is one of the regular doctors who attends the Midland hills, then go for a full face helmet - to reduce the chances of injury in the case of face/steering wheel meeting in an accident, especially if in a roadgoing car with a 3 point belt.
try AWS safety wear - they have an open face and full face on sale that are suitible for hillclimb/sprint, but probly best to try several on for best fit

Full face, always. Cockpit heat in a 60 second sprint simply isn't an issue. If you're worried about peripheral vision (which you shouldn't be in a sprint) then go for one of the larger aperture styles.
Go to Grand Prix Racewear or Demon Tweeks and spend as much time as you need trying them on to make sure you get one that fits properly.
Not sure if you can get away with a bike helmet for sprinting (your Blue Book will tell you), but I'd go for a car one (Snell 2005 etc) regardless.

Why can't you were a bike helmet in a car? [/noob question]When I chose my helmet (a basic Sparco fullface) the most important thing was getting one that fitted correctly. The place I bought from had 3 or 4 budget helmets but only the Sparco fitted my head properly. Go and try a few on at a proper motorsport place (e.g. GPR in London/Silverstone, Merlin Motorsport at Castle Coombe, etc) and get advice on fit from the people there.

True, but it's worth the trip. I went there for my last helmet as it was a smallish detour when visiting friends in Lancs. Went in with the intention of buying one helmet, left with another because it fitted correctly. Regardless of weight, when you find one that fits you'll barely notice you're wearing it - until you try to drink a cup of tea or smoke.
