is there any benefit fitting the straight smooth bore induction pipe that ACT sell?
Im using the over size 90 degree elbow anyway.

Anyone got one of these?

Anything with a smooth bore is an improvement on the original, but you also want to keep the pipe cool so it doesn't heat the air flowing through it. With the ordinary silican hose you will need to lag it with heat reflective matl.
Have a look this which I am using on my car (see profile for rr figures);
Merlin Motorsport - Thermal induction hose tube

Is that RR'd at V8 Developments?

I've been thinking the induction must be one of the first places to look for extra HP what with all the heat. Do you have any comparative runs for the smooth bore insulated hose?

No Rob, it was done at Dulfords RR earlier this year using this thermally insulated pipe from afm to filter but with the std. convoluted elbow to the plenum. No previous comparisons as this was shortly after a total rebuild.
I now have a smooth bore elbow so will be interesting to see if there is any improvement next rr session.

yes Just wondered if V8D have their RR up and running yet. I'd like a baseline before I do anything to the powerplant. I'm going to concentrate on getting the power down first before I think about any more grunt. Besides, the green ones are much faster anyway! wink

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along to correct me but i have heard figures of 3-5bhp gains using the Act silicon induction mentioned.

4 to 6hp on changing the 90deg bend to smooth bore and very little for the rest of the induction piping.
All IMHO and a little knowledge gained by talking to people who know about these things yes

MB If you work on the basis that for every extra hp you gain from these motors your wallet will be down to the tune of £100 per hp that particular mod is by far one of the most cost effective in the book yes

Did you look at V8 Enhancements site in particular the air flow meter heat shield ?

I wouldn't bother with the afm mod, save your pennies and stick an Emerald ecu in then you can ditch the afm altogether giving you the ability for a more direct and efficient air feed to the plenum and you can ditch the dizzie for that matter and use coil packs.
Not the cheapest route I know, but one of the most benificial mods long term, as whatever mods you make now will always be compromised by the limitations of the std ecu.
