CGT + Tubi straight pipes= best sounding road car, ever
Discussion
Sometimes you have to go against received wisdom and just do it. Advice here and on Rennlist was to leave the Carrera GT exhaust as stock. The fact remained though that, IMO, stock is just too quiet and something had to be done. Decided to do the experiment and go with Tubi straight pipes rather than their silenced option, and hope for the best. I've had three Tubi systems before and all were a huge improvement over stock, so not so big a risk.
Holy. Mother. of God. It genuinely sounds like a Grand Prix car, howling from 3K rpm and building all the way to the redline. A lovely pure sound and totally intoxicating; love it, love it, love it, I'm completely blown over by how good it is.
We did get some video footage over the weekend, though when we did the playback on the camera, I wasn't convinced the microphone was picking up the high pitch howl. We did Hatfield tunnel and the sound was overwhelming. If you've heard GP cars in the Monaco tunnel, that was it. After the third run, I just couldn't do another, even if you'd paid me. Too intense. The bonus is that at idle, and up to 2K rpm, it was no louder than Ali's 430 and I was able to creep out on Sunday morning.
So a big thank you to the Scuderia boys; they were adamant I'd like it, and they were spot on. All I need now is for it to stop f
ing raining for 10 minutes to get out & enjoy it.

You should have taken it to Vmax!
will be WAY over the noise limit... and most tracks too...Incidentally, the stock silencer is massive. I don't know how much it weighs, but it took two of us to lift it easily.
PS- Jeremy- is your Yahoo account live? I sent you a mail last week and it bounced. Will try again.

same on similar cars such as murcialago and mclaren f1. its part of the crash structureGood choice of car to get Kevin and a natural progression up the Supercar chain from the CS.

The F1's is made from Inconel and would cost an absolute fortune to replace (just like everything on an F1 really)
according to the book driving ambition the original stainless exhaust design was 105kg, GM hit the roof, and flew to germany, had a meeting and they walked away with a design for 30kg... iirc was definately designed to crumple as part of the crash structure and the book even shows a picture of a customer car silencer box that had been reversed through the scenery at 250kph
just from picking one up i recon the murcialago box is 40kg.
oh and straight through cgt sounds like the gates of hell opening

If you don't mind me asking - how much was the system for the CGT ? and does it leave the CAT's intact or are they removed/bypassed? As such will it pass the MOT emissions test?
Is it unbearably LOUD? My Murcie has a Tubi "rumore" fitted (the loudest one!) and while 99% of the time I LOVE the sound - it can, very ocassionally, get overpowering - especially on a long drive with the other half!
Just curious because I am very interested in fitting this to my CGT when I push the button! (trying to decide between Guards Red and GT silver at the minute!)

Haven't paid for it yet, so don't know the total cost; fitting it was a bit of a mission and took a day. Manu should be able to give you a price. The cats remain in place, it's just the back box, so emssions should not be affected. It's quite loud on cold startup, but quietens dramatically in a minute or two when the cats have warmed up. So far, it's very easy to live with. To go into stealth mode just pop it into a high gear and drop to ca. 2K rpm and it's roughly the same volume as a stock 430. I spent most of the weekend in it without any discomfort; it's not the sound, it's the need to concentrate that's the tiring aspect of this car. My other half hasn't been in it yet, but I suspect it won't be how it sounds, but the attention it attracts.... Have fun when you pull the trigger! IMO this is the best production car in existence, and in the rarified world of supercars, a bargain.

Ain't that the truth!!!!! Mr Pervo should keep his videos to himself, but in this case, Ajay was doing the filming (er, that doesn't sound any better, but trust me, it is).
Like Kev, I was underwhelmed by the sound of the CGT stock, its just too quiet. Now, it sounds like a full on F1 car. It pops, gurgles and cracks like thunder. For those who have heard a 355 with tubi decat, and know how good it sounds, be prepared to be massively surprised. This is the best sounding car I have ever heard. I thought the CGT stock sounded good, this is another level.

I'll send you an alternative to try, just in case.
