SL55 AMG COMMAND PROBLEM

I have a 2002 SL55 AMG. The command system is telling there is no navigation disc inserted (I dont know either way), equally it wont let me insert one as a result of two pieces of drop down plastic are in the way. I have powered down the unit which didnt help. MB want to replace it (naturally), for a bargain of £2400 + VAT.

Any better ideas?

i had the same problem on my C32 and the dealer also wanted to replace mine and charge me approx £3000, but after some discussion with MB UK and a few threats of legal action they agreed to replace it under warranty.

Anyhow, while in this process and fearing i would not win my claim i contacted these guys http://www.braybrooks.co.uk/
who assured me that i did not need a replacement and that the fault could easily be fixed for a lot less money, so should be worth giving a call
