Should I buy a mouth watering Tuscan ?

TUSCANS : They look great & I really want one BUT is it going to break down all the time. I drive a morris minor convertible & mondeo at the moment(not exactly hypersport). Does the servicing really have to be £800 a pop. Oh & while I am here, as the company is closed, do you all think I should forget the idea & buy a boring/bland porsche ?
Hi & thanks to those of you who have responded so far. Ok I have read through alot of the forum notes. I think I will buy a black one, I understand they are much faster. Is there such a thing as an AA inspection for cars like this ?
My local dealer are Castle TVR in Stanstead Mountfichet. Do any of you know them ? Are they straight up honest dealer ?

When I bought my Tuscan, I spoke to the AA and they wouldn't do an inspection as they'd have to take out a socket set to inspect the engine. No problem I thought, because RAC were happy to do the inspection. All the "visual engine inspection" part of the report came out "engine bay inaccessible" 
There is a Tuscan buying guide that knocks around. This gives you all the bits & pieces you would want to inspect and saves you £300.

As some of the others have said, just read the forums and get a good idea of what you're looking at with a Tuscan. But when you've done so, just go ahead and make that decision! I did a week ago!

GREAT!!TVR's have that reputation to be unreliable.
I have had and still have my Wedge which I drove to work in Germany and Switzerland with absolutely no problems.
And the same with my Chimarea driving back and to, to Germany. Both were only general maintenance.
I bought my Tuscan last October and bought at low price, expecting repair work.
I have done quite a lot work in the first 5 months but have now got to the stage of TLC. She runs great looks great. I have driven to Germany in her twice now and will be heading home the end of this week.
Followed by a driving holiday in France in August followed by back to Germany.
My point is that you see loads of threads in here for Euro tours. People do lots of long distance running. Just look after and drive her with respect and she will not only look after you but give you in return something not many other cars can give.
You know you want to, No regrets.

Buy a good one and dont rush it. Dont get taken in my the numerous negative nellies that lurk on these forums. There are numerous Tuscan owners that have had very little grief with their Tuscans...me included.
Bought my 2002 Tuscan 2 1/2 years ago and have driven 12K miles in it. Only problem was last weekend when one of the silencers fell off...jubilee clip had come loose...5 minutes and it was back on OK. Then drove 450 miles..great fun..no dramas except sunburnt face and grin stuck in permanent mode.
These cars are the finest supercars in the world for the price....nothing comes anywhere near the fun.

I've had my Tuscan nearly 5 years now, my first major repair is now a clutch, and it's not exactly the clutch that's the problem, it's the thrust bearing in the slave cylinder, but I am going to replace the lot to hopefully save money in the future.
Like anything else in this world give it affection, and you will most likely be rewarded with gratitude & pleasure.

basically i bought a 2000(early model)so all the problems that i stated are probably expected of that year,the clutch lasted till 35000 which im not sure was the first but i have no recipts to show otherwise.the car had 22000mls when i bought it.My local dealer are Castle TVR in Stanstead Mountfichet. The engine was a bit tappy when i bought the car but my mistake was not looking at any others and more important not joining PH.
So in the end the engine gave up(follower broke etc)to which i had it rebuilt at AUSTEC and that was at 27000mls,no problems so far!
the suspension is a commom problem as you probably have read and so is the lcd screen.
I guess what im saying is beware of these problems as they are the most costly to repair and if you buy your dream car the last thing you want is to fork out another fortune getting it right,i love my car and im happy it's all sorted as i can now enjoy it without any major worries.

I bought a 2000 W with 21000 miles, it had the engine rebuild c/w figer follower mod and larger rear screen etc etc.
I've only had one minor problem when the slave cylinder on the clutch went. This was replaced without any problems at all.
I Love it!!! There is no other car like it for adrenaline, the attention it gets from other people!!
My only regret is wishing i had bought one years ago when i had the opportunity!!

Mine has been at the TVR Garage for week now under repair and Im missing it like hell and before anyoe asks.
New gearbox seals being fitted (under warranty and no quibbles form the dealer) prevenative work.
Warm it up treat it with respect don't skimp on the oil or the servicing and you will not stop smiling ...........
