Hello chaps,

I see the weather at home is still crap.
Again, out here its around 37 degree`s..Lovely.

Been canning the internet while here and basically spending a fortune on the motor bits here, bits there

I have decided that this time off I am going to do a trek into Europe…
Don’t have any sort of routes planned or time scale, just going to head off and enjoy the drive and the scenery…and beer and women.
My mate from graft is going to come along for the ride.
We’ll be leaving early August…..Some where down the line I plan to visit the `RING` ... just to give the x50 a good old blat

I know it’s a long shot, but has anyone got any routes or suggestions on what route to take and where

Thanks again

Its the opposite direction but the Alps have some great roads, passes. There's also the route Napoleon in France which i did a few yrs ago.

Loads of stuff on the net about this, here's a quote from one website:

Weaving in and out through the Alps, La Route Napoleon, or the N85, follows the treacherous path taken by Napoleon Bonaparte when he returned to France in 1815. Stretching in length by more than 200 miles, it starts in the alpine town of Grenoble and ends at the glitzy Mediterranean resort of Cannes - and is one of those awe-inspiring journeys that you must tick off. The road meanders through everything imaginable, from rugged, snow-capped peaks, to rustic French villages, taking in coastal views and passing over forbidding valleys thousands of feet deep. If this doesn’t impress your date, nothing will.

The town of Grasse on the Route NapoleonEspecially if you take time to stop in these villages, which do not seem to have changed since the days when Bonaparte himself marched through. There is something truly romantic about rural France; the food, the architecture, the sense of life standing still. Everyone is so friendly, too, especially if you attempt to speak French. Which will probably have your date giggling, a great romantic start. Better still, the roads that link the villages are some of the finest stretches of blacktop you are ever likely to drive across, and there is little traffic around. The N85 might sound like just another ‘A-road’ but it is a truly magical journey. And let’s face it, it beats stale champagne and overcooked fish from your local ‘French bistro’. Here, you get the real deal.

another vote for the route nappy

fantastic roads, great scenery and some lovely towns on the way down

the run itself can be done in half a day. so allow plenty of time and head south to monaco for a night and lose some hard earned cash in the casino

some chums and i are thinking of doing the stelvio pass in italy (48 hair pin bends evil)

the joys of x50 ownership

oh and if you are driving through france dont think you can drive on the autoroutes like a tt. you will get stopped and have your wallet lightened

Against the consensus, so I'm ready to be shot down in flames, but having lived down that way for about a year, and driven the RN85, that road is a dog.

Not only is it crammed with dawdlers, but there's the locals in their knacked old vans etc, plus it's virtually void of bypasses - it goes through almost every little town.

If you want fast sweepers with precious little traffic and ace scenery, blast through from Switzerland at the eastern end of Lac Leman / Lake Geneva, through to Italy via the Simplon pass. Just watch out for the Italian border patrol just after the village of Gondo, I don't think they get much traffic through there and probably nothing exotic therefore it probably eases the boredom for the conscripts to stop cars which look interesting; theiving chiefs !
