Christian Albers, Spyker's Dutch F1 driver has been dropped by the team officially now and had absolutely nothing to do with him being outperformed by his rookie team mate or driving off in France with half an oil refinery still attached to his car.

Honda's test driver Christian Klien is one of the favourites to replace him along with Ferrari tester, Marc Gene and Williams tester, Narain Karthikeyan.

A Dutch F1 team has a vacancy for a driver and no calls to Jos Verstappen? What is the world coming to.



Ps. The official, official word is that officially he has lost his official drive with the Spyker F1 team due to non-payment by one of his sponsors, officially..........allegedly.

The team is in amess, from the top downwards, they need money and somebody who can bring the car home, thus helping with exposure. I see a slow but reliable pay driver on the horizon, not a flyer.

I'm pretty sure I read that Mol had talked about wanting Verstappen to drive the car - but as usual it'll be totally about the money - Karthikeyan seems to have Tata in his back pocket, I can't see Klien having the wherewithal to buy the seat though. Didn't Spyker effectively hock their trademark recently?

Karthikeyan is Indian. The "fastest Indian in the world" was once his marketing slogan.

Hamilton is Afro-American (yes, he is British, but his decent is Caribbean).

Different races too. I find "black" is usually used to describe people of Negro descent. Karthikeyan isn't this (obviously) - he's the first Indian.

Must be another one of those "English" words that is lost in translation. Here, I am white, Aboriginals, Islanders, Negroes, Indians, Pakistanis etc etc are all "black". So I guess that LH can only make that claim in England then...

Klien to test for Spyker
Christian Klien will test for the Spyker team on Thursday at Spa-Francorchamps tomorrow, but the team says that no decision has yet been made about who will drive for the team for the rest of the season. Klien has been released by Honda for the test.

"There are many elements to be considered before we can make our final decision on drivers and we will carefully evaluate all the options over the coming days before making any anouncement regarding the European Grand Prix and beyond," said team boss Colin Kolles.

Klien is the obvious choice for Spyker given his experience in F1 but it remains to be seen whether he wants to commit himself to the team as there may be other offers coming from other teams for next year and Klien will not want to tie himself down.
