I have a 1965 Corvair that I imported into the UK a couple of years ago. It has now passed its MOT and it is insured but I am getting a lot of different advice (from going to my local post office to needing a SVA inspection) on how to get the tax disk (which I understand is exempt because of the age - but I need it anyway). Has anyone gone through this process that could give me some direction.

You have an MOT for it. Sorted.

You only need an SVA on an import if it's less than 10 years old IIRC.

All you need is the V5, an MOT & insurance.

I take it you have regiistered it in the UK? if not, you need to ring your Local Vehicle Licensing Office and fill out the necessary form, take the MOT. pay the regiatration fee and tax and they'll allocate you a number plate. The only difficulty if this is tyhe case is showing you'd paid the tax when it was inmported although you may be exempt.

If it's already registered in the UK, you need the log book (V5), an insurance certificate and the MOT and tax it at the post office.

If she has passed the MOT then all you need to do is fill in the form to get a V5. No SVA test necessary. You will have to have paid the 10% import duty and VAT if you bought her in the states though.
