Engine pinks sometimes

The only thing that's different I can think of is outside air temp. If it's a bit low it pinks, but not every time I floor it.

During the day if it's mild it goes great but if it's a cold evening it pinks, but only sometimes


Any thoughts ?? .......

Timing probably is it?

Mine does this too, but only sometimes....i put some total Excelium (97 ron) in the wedge tonight with a bottle of octane booster too (just to be sure!) and its wonderful!! The midrange is superb!

Strange I thought if it was warmer it would pink more.

two options adjust timimg, or higher octane fuel or booster.

Why note try to get ride of it by having a cooler air inlet.

Lag the air pipes, fit a plenum insulator (£50 from 350Matt at http://www.magnaparva.com/ 38mm or 45mm) and remove the hot water feed to the bottom of the plenum..

If you change the ignition setting (assuming it's correct) then you loose power.

True. too much timing can loose you a few horses, but its a quick way fix it, and then spend time doing the other stuff. and then put it back to optimum. also if it's not much you may not loose any or just 1 or 2 BHP. prob less the the HP your loosing from pinking.
