Group test in this months GT Porsche
Discussion
I VERY comprehensive test between a C2S with powerkit, a 997 TT, 997 GT3 and a 997RS
a long list of accelleration tests, from zero, and in every gear etc, shows the RS to be 0.1 seconds faster than the GT3 in all cases, and the TT to be upto 2 seconds quicker than the RS in most cases.
Lap times of Bedford South circuit were :
C2S 1:06:09
GT3 1:04:02
TT 1:04:02
RS 1:03:40
The extra speed of the RS over the GT3 was out of the corners where they felt the extra traction of the rear end help on the RS, they tried the same speed (85mph) in one particular corner in a GT3 and it oversteered bigtime.
Bottom line, the editor would still take home a GT3 with PCCB, as he would rather save the extra £14k......i can appreciate that for such similar performance.
The best review i've read in this mag for a long time....

Id rather have your car anyday Glenn
Me too.Who did the mag having driving by the way? I'm surprised the conclusion wasn't their usual 'they are all great in their own way' type rubbish.
Chris Knapman
Colin Goodwin
Stuart Gallagher
I've not read the full 24+ pages yet, as i've done my usual, too excited to read it all, so go straight to the results and summary bit.....
I'm sure there'll be some of the usual superlatives and sweeping statments in there somewhere, but glad they've taken the time to make it so in depth and informative..

Single marque mags are even more shite than the broader ones.

So setting lap times with one guy who can vaguely pedal but is hardley a carrera supercup winner. Says it all really...

But isn't this how it should be? These cars are driven primarily by average drivers with plenty of cash (and mainly on the road), so surely we need to know what an average driver can do in one.Single marque mags are even more shite than the broader ones.
If I'm buying an RS (I wish!) then I don't need to know how quickly Walter Rohl can punt it around the Ring, I want to know how fast a 'knob jockey' like myself can do it.......
All IMHO of course

Good review, I agree with Glenn, best review I have seen in a specialist Porker publication for ages, a lot of hard work went into that, performance, spec, track times, driving impressions all compared, makes a refreshing change from the sort of stuff we can all write from our front room! well done GT Purely Porsche!
I would liked to have seen the standard S included I bet that wouldn't have been that far off the pace either, the point is all these cars are very close on road in the real world, its just down to the driving dynamics that we as drivers choose, more interaction vs more comfort etc!

Surely people don't choose between these cars because of fractions of seconds on lap times?
From what I can tell, people buy the TT because they want the mid-range thump in the back and the mechanical grip. Whereas people seem to buy the GT3 and RS because it's the sharpest tool in the box and for its linear performance.
From what I've read, it's interesting how many TT owners want to boost their performance further, yet GT3 owners seem quite happy with their performance and talk more about chassis set up. Chalk and cheese.
