I have advertised my car on PH, but haven't had a response, can anyone tell me if they have or haven't successfully sold their car vis PH.

Cheers

Banner on right hand side of PH Classifieds page said:
15,055 sales were made via PistonHeads in the last year.
A total of £141,184,122!
So the answer is: yes! yes

I cant complain with there service as i have sold various cars that i have owned and that my friends have owned using there service and its for FREE! I found Autotrader gave you allot of fraud/junk emails allong with dodgy buyers.

I guess allot depends on what you are selling and at what cost.

I can second that. I advertised a 997 on here and on Autorader last year. Had about 50 calls from dealers and canvassers from Autotrader but no serious buyers. Had 3 emails via here, one of whom bought the car.

How long did it take on average to sell your car?
I know PH promote it but they are hardly going to say it doesn't work. Yes it is free, and i do agree that you don't get people trying to sell you more adverising.
How price sensitive do you think it is? My Cayman is one of the lowest with the spec its got, but how much you get back for the spec seems to be a difficult one.

I sold my 996 cab via Pistonheads last year and had app 10 contacts with 3 being serious and eventually selling to one first class buyer who I know still enjoys the car. It took app 1 months from posting to sale.

Just checked and the car was on for less than a week. Posted on the Thursday, got the email from the guy who bought it the following Tuesday.

I sold my M3 to the first person who viewed it through PH. However, I reckon the new owners will start administering a 'Small' charge soon.....

Always got a good response from PH. Would be ashame if they started charging due to the Haymarket buyout and would confirm people's misgivings about that...Hopefully that will not happen.

Make sure you price it realistically for year/miles - many private ads on PH seem to be at dealer prices, which is kind of missing the point of private sales. No-one wants to waste their time negotiating with an unrealistic seller.

They sell quickly if they're priced well.

PH is one of the top ways to sell a prestige car in the UK. If it's not selling on PH, there's something not quite right with the price/car/spec/market.

Had my previous car on PH for a month and just had one response. IMHO opinion it was priced correctly at 8k which was
dealer bid +1k,
main dealer offer -4k
in fact it might have even looked too low vs. other private sales
- just serviced with new discs and pads.
- silver with black leather so not a dodgy colour

Sometimes it just takes time and sometimes you need to take a look at your advert, often something small and silly can put off the handful of potential buyers for it.

The other thing worth remembering is that it's no Ford Focus you're selling. There aren't 000's of people hunting for your car at the moment!

Sold my 993 to the second person who saw it.. PH was the only place I put it on.
Took 10 days ! I was very shocked.. I was thinking 2-3 months in this time I would have chance to find a new beast.

Best place on the interweb to sell a car IMO - my last Boxster sold within 24hrs of the advert going live.

If you're not getting enquiries then:
a) too expensive
b) poor spec (i.e. savannah/green interior)
c) poor advert
d) your location

a) is the most obvious reason and b) is really just a function of a) (or hanging around until you find that 1 person who might like it) and d) can be improved by a) or taking it to a mates house in a better location until it sells. If c) they get off your lazy arse and write a better ad, take better pics, give some history - warts n all!

Sold my last 3 cars (Porsche/Ferrari/Honda) on Pistonheads and they all went within 7-10 days. They were all well priced though. No point in sitting around for weeks on end in the hope of screwing an extra £2k out of the deal. Once you've decided to sell...

Just looking at the Cayman ads. Is yours the one without a photo by any chance...?
