Just I was thinking how happy I was with the Griff - 3 months and not a problem......

Went to fill up with petrol on the way home came out to the car after paying; turned off the alarm put the key in the ignition and lights came on then click everything went off.

Turned off the ignition and tried again all the lights on the dash are flickering. Tried a few more times; reseated the relays but no joy so called the RAC out. By this time the alarm is playing up as well can't disable the alarm and have to use the seperate immobiliser key to get the ignition working. Alarm is going off everytime I opened the door

He diagnosed a dead cell in the battery, he put his jump pack on it and it turned over (very slowly) and fired but still couldn't deactivate the alarm (Meta).

Anyway as it was only a short way from home he followed me there but no better with the spare fob.

So has the alarm fried itself or do you think if I just replace the battery that will reset everything and it should be OK? I'll have a search on here for the alarm reset instructions.

Anyone know what battery I should buy (Griff 500 Serp engine) or is it easier to take it out and then take it with me to find a replacement?

I guess I'll try replacing the battery and see if I still have a prob then call in someone to look at the alarm if that's still not working.

Any other ideas? It just seems odd that the battery should just die like that.

Agree, the alarm should be fine once the battery is sorted.

Go for a battery (type 072) with the highest cold cranking current you can get and if possible get a vent pipe connector that fits, as they are not all interchangeable.

Cheers,

Simon.

Thanks, I'll get the battery out tonight and look for a replacement tomorrow once I've checked the vent pipe thingy.

Meta alarm gets confused when the main battery goes flat. Simple cure - disconnect the battery earth for 5 seconds, reconnect then immediately press the plipper . You should find the alarm resets itself and now behaves normally

Before you remove the battery box draw round it with a black marker pen to mark it's position, it makes it a WHOLE lot easier to replace it once you've swapped the battery.

I bought a Varta E12 680 amp battery with a 5 year warranty. Top make and very powerful, but not cheap. Whatever battery you buy make sure the terminals are the correct way round, in my case Earth on the right as the cables may not otherwise reach. Once the battery is in its fibreglass box the terminals are not that easy to reach(or see). To overcome this I drilled 2 holes through the front of the battery box so I could slide a socket through directly on to the cable clamps. As with many batteries on offer you will need to remove the flange at each side to get it into the box.

Thanks - reset the alarm and disabled it and now battery is out and ready to be taken to the shop to match up with a replacement.

Have a severe headache from setting the alarm off several times in the confines of the garage headache
