HT Lead extenders

My Dissy has the female connection with "extenders" before the HT lead itself. I also still have the dissy surround in place. I have seen some pictures of engines where the surround is missing and the HT leads come direct off the dissy (no extenders).

So, do the extenders do anything else but extend ? radio interference etc ?
I'm aware of the male/female, Bosch/Lucas dissy to leads issue, but has anyone had any problem or know of any issue in removing the surround and extenders ?

I dont listen to (cant hear) the radio in the car so dont care about interference- as long as thats all its protecting ??

I've still got them, but I've seen lots of S's without.

Ford called them "Adapter/Surpressor" (Motorcraft 6081467). I replaced mine around 5 years ago as the originals looked very grotty (£2.95 each - 7 required).

I'm not sure what the extenders are exactly but the S3C has neither extenders or the can thing (the leads plug straight into the cap with 90 degree connectors) and there is no radio interference problem - not that the radio is used though as its not very good to say the least ... its OK with casettes though - you may remember them

OK thanks both, decision made then, surround discarded and extenders (adaptor/suppressor - thanks Roy) left off, new leads plugged direct into the dissy cap - neat.

Let us know if it makes any difference. I imagine that they probably had more to do with radio reception on the Granada than anything TVR intended.

I'd be concerned with interferance affecting the ECU so keep hold of the bits incase you have to refit them to solve that intermittent problem.
