Having sold my cerb in February for financial reasons could live no
longer without a tiv. Just purchased a 400 pre cat Griff. Had a full
body off restoration 18 months ago and has full history.
Has some minor electrical problems one being hot/cold air fan does not
work. any ideas as to what this could be hoping for a cheap/easy fix.

You will not stop grinning and have far more fun with the roof off.
Buy the Steve Heath bible will help you out on most problems but try the fuse board passenger side foot well, someone will be along to point you in the right direction.

And welcome BTW

Pasco.

PS Make sure you go to the Griff Growl thumbup

Nice Griff, I like the colour!

I too have a pre-cat and my heating and ventilation has never been right, looking at the way it works its a right 'pigs ear!' My fan works but is noisy, its located in the passenger side wing and looks difficult to get to, I have not tried yet but I'm sure there are some who have.

I also have problems with the motor driven valves that control the heat/water flow and the vent up/down, its a crap design, I just leave mine on cold as I don't really use the car in the winter or with the roof on........you will need to get used to that!

To get to the fan you need to remove the nearside headlamp pod - yes really!

The other valves, etc are accessible from inside the car BUT I wouldn't bother as even in peak operating condition the heating system is poor.

Doesn't stop your enjoyment of the car with the hood off though.

Welcome fellow pre-cat. cool

Mine is a little like a wheezy asthmatic blowing through a straw at the best of times - I'm told that's about as good as it gets. rolleyes You'll get used to it. See you at the Growl.

Thanks for the replies. The fan in the Cerb was bad but
better than nothing. Hope it is just the switch.

Welcome Blue Beast.

Before you take the head lightpod out to get to the fan yikes, bit of a job that, check the rotary switch on the dash.

Welcome Bluebeast,

I have a pre-cat and have read many many posts on the heating and ventilation systems on the early cars. If its a weekend good weather car i wouldn't bother trying to fix it, especially as it may not actually be broken - they really are that bad.

I have a retro fit driver fan which is switch operated and blows lots of air through one vent in the dash. It was on the car when i bought it so ii'm not sure how much.

Enjoy the car.

Assume you've tried the fuse and wiggled any loose wiring?

There is a couple of ways of improving the flow, mainly involving moving the motor or as I have installing something to make sure everything the fan sends reaches its destination......

BUT, I am still getting the GRP outta my fingers...

On my earlier car though, I have found that although I have greatly increased the flow(it actually whistles now on the hightest fan speed), the up/down diverter is pretty crap and I still dont get much through the dash vents.
But the screen clears in about 20 seconds now and my feet get warm air on a cool day.

Oh and wahey!!!!!
ANOTHER PRECAT, we will take over huh Grover.

Thanks for the replies. Not sorted. So many people have said
even if the fans work they are no good so not bothered to
spend time or money fixing. Driven loads over the last few months
including annual Surrey run to France 1000 miles of FUN.
Hoping the heat from engine will keep me warm in the winter and windows open to hear soundtrack and keep screen clear.

The tracks on the circuit board behind the switchs are known for breaking/burning out.
Worth checking carefully, mine had gone and taken other bits out with it.
You can solder a wire across any break.

Have you tried pressing the fan's rotary switch in? On my car you have to turn the rotary switch to adjust the flow and press it in to make the fan work.
