Cars eh? They're the bane of our lives, they get in the way on the roads, they always pull out in front of us, the knock us off our bikes and claim that they couldnt see us, despite our bright headlights and often brighter paint schemes and leathers/helmets.

Yet cars do have their uses, they can carry our loved ones in more safety, they're bloody lovely when it's raining or snowing, and they can definately carry more shopping. (Though 7 carrier bags on my zx7r is my record)

So, what do YOU ride and drive... and why? Here's mine...

Bike - ZX9R C2 blue, cosmetic mods include zx7r headlight conversion, mild power mods.

Car - Porsche 944 Auto 1987 metallic black, standard except for Boxster wheels.

Why - I always loved the water cooled Porsches, but having been on a bike for 3 years I'd not been stuck in a traffic jam, and knew that being in a car would give me road rage, so I wanted something pretty, and relaxing to drive. My car has power steering and an auto gear box so it is chill out motoring. I purposely bought the slowest model, 2.5 litre, 8 valve, auto box, so that I wouldnt have lots of power and be trying to overtake things like i do on my bike.

And yes........ yes ok..... I was a fair weather biker this winter, so sue me! ( Please don't sue me)

Bike: several (on my profile)
Car: Punto 1.2 daily snotter, Porsche 911SC restoration project, plus others.
Why: I've loved bikes since I was a nipper, got my first at ten and twelve years later I haven't stopped! As far as cars go I'd always wanted a 911, promised myself one before I was thirty and I've managed (driving it before I'm thirty may be an altogether different story).

I do a lot more driving than i do riding at the moment (although i hope that's going to change soon, when i finally get a good commuter bike sorted)
I have always been one to have a lot of cars, currently we have...

Mitsubishi Shogun (tow vehicle)
Nissan 200sx S14.5 (2006/2007 race/track car)
Nissan 200sx S15 (2008/2009 race/track car) **in progress of being built**
Peugeot 206D (every day car, does 500 miles to £45 and is the most un-sexy car in the world)
And then i have my 99 TL1000R which is currently in bits...

Love driving and im very close to buying something else more interesting for the road. Bugger the fuel prices i say. Pah!

I did have a Fiat Barchetta for 10years up until a month ago when I tried to nudge a BMW off the M1. Completely my fault......a lapse of concentration that you just can't afford to have on a bike. Lovely little summer car, shall be missed but not replaced.

Jag S type 3.0 in black. Great for those long journeys, the tesco trips, and as it has a towbar, getting my trackbike around.

Triumph TT600 - had this for about 5 years, done 20K on it since new, and has been a real workhorse. Screamed it around the tracks, great handling bike, but no longer has the legs for it!

CBR 600 '99. - Trackbike. Only done the one trackday so far, Snetterton, which was a little frightening when I discovered the front brakes were shot. Repairs done and looking forward to Mallory on the 28th. reputed to have 110 at the back wheel, no paperwork to prove, so I'll shall be getting it dyno'd soon.

Laverda 750S Formula 1999 - Only comes out every blue moon. What a gorgeous bike. I've had this for about 3 years and only done about 800 miles on it. I'd just like to apologise to all the R1's and Gixer thous I stuffed at Halls, hairpin and Coppice about 2 years ago. Boy did the bike feel planted. Just too lovely to take out every day.

I've got my pay off for the fiat, so the TT is going and the world is my oyster

Been riding for 2 years now. Just got a Gixer to play on. Commute on it, will go abroad on it, and will be on the track on it.
Gave up on cars a while back, as I'd need £400k to get anything near quick enough to keep me awake! Actually, currently looking for a motor. Thinking along the lines of an M3 or a T350c, although the T350 is fav, subject to insurance(refuse to pay silly money.
It's just for convenience you understand.....

MX5 Roadster - its a nice ltd ed, handles great, roof comes off, wind in the hair, 2 seater convertibles are as close to the bike experience as you can get.

Bikes - Hornet 6 and Aprilia Falco. Hornet was my 2nd bike and I bought it cos of its looks and the fact it does everything. Scratches, commutes, tours, brilliant bike. Will I ever sell it? Probably not, unless it blows up!

Bought the Falco earlier this year cos I fancied a big Italian twin without the hassles and costs associated with Ducati ownership. Also fancied something a little bit different from the rest of the litre bikes on the road.

Bike - 2003 R1, Akra Carbon/Ti slip on, double bubble, Ohlins damper, braided lines and 'R1 ***' plate. All I fitted was the damper, the rest was done by the previous owner.

Car - 1998 Skoda Felicia - bought 3 years ago for £350, done 25k miles and all i've replaced is consumables, though it is developing an alarming oil leak!

Easy! It's the cheapest car in the universe to run and is 'amusing' when being spanked.

I have owned an Elise S1, Elise S2 and 340R, though smile

Cheap is the only acceptable answer, but for adding the 'amusing when spanked' part.. I CAST THE TO HELL SATAN!!

A pal of mine had an R6 and a Fita Uno 950... now that was cheap to run smile

I do many more miles in cars than I do on bikes – It’s not really feasible to use the bike to transport the kids and as I commute 50 miles each way each day, the car is considerably cheaper to run and the roads from home to work are pretty boring so not much fun on the bike.

Cars:

Audi A6 2.5TDi daily commuter/kids taxi – Lots of space, 100% reliable and actually very cheap to run.
TVR Chimaera 500 weekend fun car – Just listen, no other reason needed! Mods – uprated cross bolt engine plus one or two other minor tweaks.
Nissan Terrano II 2.7TD (Wifes run around) – Practical with 7 seats and can tow just about anything.

Bikes

Honda VTR1000 Firestorm – Possibly the best ‘value for money’ fun bike available. (In my opinion!) – Mods include enlarged petrol tank, Penske shock, revalved forks, mirror extenders, 17 tooth front sprocket.

BMW K1 – Superb motorway mile muncher, as boring as an accountants conference on fiscal prudence! (Currently on loan to a friend who ‘lost custody’ of his own bike!)

Bikes:

GPZ500s - super cheap bike for commuting to work. Refuses to die even though its thrashed within an inch of its life every day. May be looking for another cheapy with a bit more power to replace it..

TL1000R - Every mod under the sun. Shock, Front End, Headwork, High Comp Pistons etc etc etc. Currently suffering after what looks an electrical fault in Holland so its waiting for some TLC

Cars:

Currently only 1.. TVR Chimaera - Love its quirky ways and after 2 years it still makes me smile giving it some beans on country roads.

Bikes:
SV - need to get it MOT'd and finish the R1 front end for it
Falco - probably the reason why the SV is not MOT'd, now it's sorted it's fabulous to ride

Cars:
Corsa - probably not worth that much now, but reliable and good for local trips (parking ding proof)
Astra - Inherited, comfortable, gutless (even compared to the Corsa)
Cerb - keeps me poor, but makes me smile in a way no other car has

Bikes...Ducati 996 S
...I used to have a bulging stable with 2 blue & white oil cooled Gixers & a Bandit 1200 as the Dukes stablemates...but I had to slim down financialy when the baby(s) arrived..all that remains of the oil cooled team is a Gixer frame, it will meet a big bored 1216 lump and transform into a black streetfighter with polished yellow wheels etc..

cars..Rover SD1 V8 Vanden plas
3 others tucked away awaiting my spannerwork.
I sometimes get pissed off with buggering about with old motors & feel like buying something newish, sensible & smooth but my passion for the older stuff remains....wink I really should move on with the Rovers...but their like family....& a high performance TVR or yank V8 transplant is so easy & effective .....biggrin

Why..Had a KX125 as a first bike in my teens...then moved onto the 1000cc road bikes...like you do...A 2.8i Capri with shit tyres was actually an excellent precurser to bikes...both had little grip & taught finesse in machine control...only the bikes are as fast as you could ever need or want...biggrin

I've loved cars for years, but a few weeks ago sold my much-loved Chimaera after 9 years of ownership as it just didn't give me the same buzz as the bikes and it was costing a lot to have sitting in the carpark for much of the week doing nothing. So now I am TWO and love it! So . . .

Z1000 for daily use and general arsing around on
MV F4 750 when I want to get my head down
998RS for track work
