Discussion
This I know will be small fry compared to some of the topics discussed on here (perhaps general gassing would be better), but here goes...
I have recently had a bit of a windfall and am looking for some ideas as to what to do with £40,000.00 that would be relatively safe, and supply a reasonable return.
I would not neccessarily require immediate access to the funds, but don't particularly want them tied up for years to come.
I know nothing about this, other than I can go down the high street and get the usual over the counter 6.0% savings account from the usual people, but perhaps I am missing something fairly straight forward?
Sorry if this sounds really thick, and I am aware that there are no "ideal" solutions, but any ideas/advice would be gratefully recieved.

It all depends how far up the risk/reward ratio you are prepared to go.
You could do worse than to invest the first 7K in an investment ISA and shove the rest into some high performing Unit Trusts.
Best speak to a financial adviser... or if you're feeling lucky, you could fill in something like the online questionnaire on www.Easy-Funds.co.uk which shows you your attitude to risk and then a model investment portfolio based on the results (click on 'invest with help').
