Bugatti increases Veyron Production

We need more Veyrons...now!

Bugatti has decided to make more Veyrons per year.

75 per year? Ok, I'll have one then...
75 per year? Ok, I'll have one then...

The hypercar maker announced they would be ramping up production from 60 cars a year to 75.

A Bugatti spokesman said: “We want to shorten the waiting time from just over a year.”

Are potential customers becoming impatient? Or are they quietly planning to up the final amount from 300?

the more the better I say. If I won the lottery it would be the first thing I'd buy.

Yes indeedy. When the Veyron was featured in one of the Top Gear races, Clarkson mention that VAG/Bugatti were losing money on each one. I think the quoted figures were 5 million quid production cost versus the million odd purchase price. Is that right?

I presume that includes development costs, in which case they may be better off selling more of them. Depends how much they're going to make on each car and servicing thereafter, I guess.

exactly, if they produce 400 now rather than 300 then each one should only cost 3.75mil(!) to produce rather than 5mil.

I guess that means if they sell 1786 at £840k then they break even!

if you've got that kind of money then I'm sure you can get one from somewhere, even if it's not from the bugatti factory

You are "invited" to put 300k euros down to secure your place in the queue, so its kind of like being asked to put 1000k down for a BMW or 20k for a Ferrari on a bigger scale!!!

Its not like the Enzo where you are invited to start with based upon previous ownership/relationship - I was offered a space despite having no connection to Bugatti or dealers previously.... I took the view then, and I take the view now, that these are 750k cars in a couple of years.

Then again what the hell do I know - I'm the idiot that said no to an early 599 as I thought they'd lose a packet!!!

That's it - I've heard enough. I only planned on getting one because they were going to be rare.
You can forget it Mr Bugatti - I'm off down to the Ford GT shop.

Only two decisions

1)White with blue stripes or Jet Black?
2)1:18 or 1:24?

I personally doubt that! They have made 400 Enzos and they fetch 1 hell of a premium over and above original list so I feel that they won't lose money for 3 reasons!!

1) As per normal you'll get a few idiots who buy them because they can and have no driving talent whatsoever so will write a few off!

2) The type of people who look at buying this car (and I do know someone!) are more than likely the type of person to keep hold of it as it is the ultimate car so therefore I doubt that their will be many around on the second hand market!

3) There are more than a few people out there with the same view as yourself and will have notified dealers as to what you/they are waiting for and the dealers will be able to sell with a massive premium because they will know that if you say no someone else will say yes!

Ferrari’s most profitable ever car is the F40 believe it or not, for this very reason. They figured on only selling around 400 and so priced them accordingly. Such was the media hype that they went on to sell many, many more – 1300+ IIRC – of course, all still priced at the “400 cars to cover our design costs and include a nice profit on each one” cost.

Unlikely, the shape is nigh on impossible to do a decent job on IMO.
I'd also guess cutting the roof off would probably allow the car to
tear itself apart with all that power

smile Noone who knows of you will dispute that smile

Can you imagine the wind sheer at 240 with the roof down smile

I cant imagine a softtop would be an option, so I'd guess @ a Coupé-Cab hardtop.

Ferrari really know their market, appearently ~£100,000 of an Enzo is pure profit. They probably right off a significant portion of the costs of producing their hyper cars by prototyping technology that goes straight into the next "entry level" car. They already have the infrastructure to make low volume vehicles and obviously also have the manufacturing techniques. Plus the nature of the Ferrari's hyper car is that it's finish isn't that good and I doubt somewhat it has been extensively tested to make sure it works in the arctic.

I would be surprised if the stories of each car costing 3 million are true (this might have been true when they had only sold 100 of them) over the 300 car production. Most estimates are that they spent some £250 million developing the car including building the factory. I would guess that the car probably costs in the region of £400,000 to make on the basis that this would be twice what a Zonda cost to make. This would see the Veyron breaking even at around the 300 mark, I suspect that they will stop making them when people stop ordering them as they aren't going to worry about over supplying the market.
