Are you sure about this, I was under the impression that any changes to spacing, which includes the surrounding area, was illegal.

Cutting the actual plate down even if you are trimming off blank areas is illegal. In practice though as long as the letters are the correct font and spacing you will not be hassled about it.
Reality is - your plate is what the the plod aim at with their lasers, that way they get the best reflection and detection of your speed.
That said my plate is cut down and has only 4 charcters on it, plus it is curved to the shape of the T350 nose!

well thats a bummer cos on the S series the only way the rear number plate will fit in the gap provided is by cutting it down by 6 - 7 mm's! i appreciate that the Bib wont pull you for it but its odd that the car is supplied with illegal plates from new.

I was at Harrogate Horseless Carriages today, they had a yellow/orange Tuscan and it had a 3/4 size front plate, so a dealer was selling it with an illegal plate?
I thought this was a grey area, because there are such a range of plates, normal square stick on curved T350 etc, but didnt think it was illegal.

Can anybody confirm that this is non-endorsable? I would feel a lot safer without a front plate due the amount of muppets with laser guns I seem to encounter.
(I agree it makes you look a bit leary but it's better than having a long ban for speeding if it's non-endorsable)

Bikes don't need seem to need them and I've seen a few bikes deliberately set off gatso's that take pics of the front of cars, must be fun.
So maybe you can drive without front plates on a car. In fact I'me sure I've seen "new" cars being driven without front plates (only trade plates fitted to the rear).

Yeah, you're right - it comes under 'construction and use' regulations. Tell the Old Bill (in a surprised voice) that "it was there this morning - must have fallen off" and you'll probably get a ticket that gives you 14 days to put one on and have it verified by an MOT station.
