Hi,

I've noticed a few members have fitted a s/c to their S2000's. I'm thinking of upgrading myself, my 04' has 24k on the clock and only now feels like it's started to open out, can anyone spill the beans on:

Comptech or Vortech ?
New or second Hand s/c ?
Performance gains bhp , 0 - 60, 0 - 100 times, torque figures, etc ?
Fuel economy changes, not fussed about this, but interested ?
Purchase price, has anyone imported from the USA ?
Has anyone fitted the s/c themselves, or does it need to be set up, tuned ?
Reliability issues, concerns, clutch, gearbox, lsd, etc ?
Insurance policy increase, how much ?

Any info much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Don't have an S2000 but have Turbocharged my Honda engine. I found that i needed an LSD, uprated clutch, heavier duty drive shafts and some goos engine management on top of the package i bought.
I'd definately try the states as i almost half the cost of parts i buy doing it that way. It's not even as hard as it sounds (just remember to calculate shipping into your costs).
Again as i don't have an S2K ot a s/c i don't know how that'd go but i've had a lot of difficulty getting my turbo to run properly and i've had to spend a lot of cash on extras you don't think about. Have a look at the S2K sites and get both sides of the story before you decide and do your research!!!! This will ensure you don't make simple (but expensive) mistakes.

Mate at work had one imported with a Comptech charger on it and it was ridiculously quick if a little tail happy!! Good luck with getting it sorted and hope this helps?

Comptech or Vortech ?

Comptech easier to install, Vortech gives about 5% more power.

New or second Hand s/c ?

I managed to get a comptech with chargecooler (aftercooler) in a GB. 2nd hand they are about half price.

Performance gains bhp , 0 - 60, 0 - 100 times, torque figures, etc ?

A mate is running the 1/4 mile in 13.0 without launching (just putting your foot down).

Here is my dyno plot. At the wheels, with a bit more boost than the stock setup.

Fuel economy changes, not fussed about this, but interested ?

I've dropped from 22mpg ish, down to 17mpg ish commuting. I saw about 12 on a tunnel run the other day (inc 60mph on the m4 for an hour).

Purchase price, has anyone imported from the USA ?

www.comptechusa.com - I got mine cheaper in a GB.

Has anyone fitted the s/c themselves, or does it need to be set up, tuned ?

Fitted min in a long weekend with the bits out the box. Then added more boost and got an AEM ECU and tuned.

Reliability issues, concerns, clutch, gearbox, lsd, etc ?

Already had a clutch, seems it's needed. Everything else holds up as long as you don't got 500bhp or launch hard.

Insurance policy increase, how much ?

Mine went from £680 one year, to £699 with adding the charger and a roll cage.

The above sums it up nicely.

Cost in another £1500-1800 for standalone ECU, bigger injectors, smaller pulley and some GOOD tuning, the boost monster will get you. biglaugh

I'm a 100% happy with mine at 10'ish psi, would love a little more but not going to risk reliability, instead I'll change the final drive ratio for a little more acceleration. smile
