Do you really think he would of told you the truth??? His employment contract probably stops him from saying.
I was told by someone very high up in Porsche GB, there would be no 997 RS and there wouldn't be a 997GT2. Both have now proved to be wrong....
The big question here is how long is the 997 range going to be around. They have released a hell of a lot of variants in a small space of time.....

I asked someone, who should know, (and his information has been spot on in the past).
He said there was absolutely no information about any more GT3 production. It's ending later this year with all slots spoken for. However, people will always speculate about a further run towards the end of the 997's life ('09/'10), and you have to say it's a possibility rather than a probability.

Porsche will say whatever is required to maximise their current new car sales without jeopardising future demand.
They don't need to say anything "truthful" to a group of British hobby car drivers.
If anyone wants to know, get a job in Porsche's R&D department, quit, then come spill the beans here at PH, then go into exile to escape Porsches' infamous lawyers...

Are the cup cars running 3.8l engines yet? (I know the RSRs do).
That would be a hint I'd think.
No Dan, the 997 cup car has the 3.6 litre lump in it, which actually puts out slightly less power than the road car. That would be a hint I'd think.
The fact that the 3.8l RSR engine needs a rebuild every 30 hours plus Porsche Motorsport have recalled all the 997 Supercup engines this week, makes me think we wont be seeing a 3.8l RS road car for a while.
Relatively good news in that both had far less internal damage than we first feared, so the rebuild costs are going to be reasonable.
We still haven't received an update from the factory whether our new parts were faulty, but hopefully after the gearbox that let go so spectacularly on live tv during last weekends Supercup race, they will admit there is a problem!
Unfortunately, we still don't have a hugh amount of faith of them lasting for 24 hours in their current spec so the Britcar 24hr race is looking doubtful for us.

Whatever. As the man said, if you are employed by Porsche you say whatever you are told to, to maximise car sales. And quite right too. Now, really, they can sell all the GT3's they can make. So why exactly do you think they would refuse to make a few more? What are they preserving the exclusivity for do you think? You think in a year or two's time you are going to roll up at your Porsche Centre and they are going to refuse to sell you a GT3?
My money would be on a Mk2 in MY2009 with a direct injection 3.6 (not 3.8) for 430-440hp and an option of twin clutch paddle shifting, the new GT2 seats, titanium exhaust and (disable-able) stability control with little else to talk about (though lighter and more efficient electric power steering and aircon could always happen).

Whats the news re: the Mk2 GT3?
When is it expected? Who here has further knowledge?
Is it worth waiting over a current GT3?
Thanks.

That is not true. My dealer will sell you happily a car for 2008 - at least in Germany...He said there was absolutely no information about any more GT3 production.
