Hi Mark,

make an ecu, an "electronic control unit", an electronic brain to read information from the cars various sensors, and, given the inputs of these sensors (oxygen levels, etc etc) control the engine appropriately. a "map" is a grid, specifying for any particular rpm in the rev range, how much fuel and how much air to shove into the engine. every car can be quite individual, so perfecting a fuel/air map for the car can reap good benefits, when you consider the original factory map may not be set out to achieve the same things you wish to achieve (reliability vs performance, expected fuel grades etc) and that you may have aftermarket modifications (exhaust etc) that may require an altered map to work to their best.
Now you say youve had your car remapped, but what ecu does this map sit on? the original factory ecu? (can they be remapped?) or an aftermarket ecu like emerald?
modern car ecus are getting cleverer all the time, adaptively changing their maps in relation to all kinds of conditions, sensing driver style and all sorts! not sure just how fukll featured the original mbe ecu for the cerb is, or how much more advanced the emerald ecu is, a bit of reading on emeralds site gives a good idea of what the ecu does!
