anyone wanna be my accountant for new business (EricMc?!)
Discussion
Hi All,
In the process of setting up a new business....mobile paint spraying....which i assume will need an accountant. Is very simple in terms of finances (I think)
Anyway.....as havent actually done this before I guess I should get an accountant to help make sure I dont dick it up (or disadvantage myself monetarily
) and then do yearly accounts.....
Wondered if anyone on here fancied it before I pick up the yellow pages!
cheers

How expensive does it have to be to use Eric, or an ordinary accountant?
I might be in a similar position too, in time - but am hoping that ultra-simple finances will preclude my needing an accountant urgently. Can't really afford one (notwithstanding the "Can you afford not to?" ripostes). I am set up as a limited company.

I like to think of accountants paying their own fees by saving your tax liability. People like Eric either know or have the time to investigate intentional or unintentional 'loopholes' in the taxation system. Knowing that in situation x you can reduce your liability by y or knowing that trying to claim z as an allowable expense is likely to lead to an investigation often saves you more than their fee. Additionally all the paperwork etc that they do saves you having to do it so you can concentrate on other parts of your business.I might be in a similar position too, in time - but am hoping that ultra-simple finances will preclude my needing an accountant urgently. NB my profile says I'm an accountant but I don't have a vested interest here as I'm a commerical accountant/financial analyst. I can put a set of financial statements together, but wouldn't even offer advice on tax etc to friends as I know next to nothing compared to the guys who do it for a living.
Feeling humbled by all these accolades

I'm not purposefully seeking clients - honest. I have as many as I can probably cope with at the moment.
However, I think that once you open up a limited company you have no choice but to obtain the services of a practising accountant. Limited companies are just too complicated for non-qualified individuals to deal with effectively.
I am always happy to chat to people about their business start ups. I am not concerned whether they eventually use me as their accountant or not.
I look on PH as a glorified pub and I would certainly be happy to chat to anyone in a pub about such matters.
