Why the requirement for 2 owners or less?
I would have always thought that if the car has been looked after, respected and serviced correctly then what does the number of owner's matter?
If a 3/4/5-year-old car had had 7+ owners, then I may ask questions (like why does nobody want to keep it? and what recurring problem does it have?), but I would have thought that expensive cars like that would be bought by people who regularly change their vehicle anyway. My in-laws rarely keep a car for a full year, let alone 3 or 4!
I bought my previous car (RX-8) pre-registered with 10 miles on the clock. I then sold it on the day of it's first service with less than 7000 miles on it. That would mean that whomever took the car on, would have been 3rd owner on a 12-month-old car.
What's wrong with that?
No offence- just curious.

No one wants to buy a car with that many owners, its just the way the buying public are.I would have always thought that if the car has been looked after, respected and serviced correctly then what does the number of owner's matter?

I would never buy a car with that many owners basically because a re sale would be very hard especially on a car like this.
The guy imo is being fussy with good reason. Its very easy to buy a 50-60k car but not that easy to sell after you have had your fun unless its cheap.

He sounds a bit naive doesnt he! Porsches seem to get through an owner per year...mostly for 2 reasons:I would have always thought that if the car has been looked after, respected and serviced correctly then what does the number of owner's matter?

1) They get bored and want a newer one or a new model
2) They buy one and realise its not going to fit in with their lives.

thanks for the replies - interesting (and valid) point about the number of owners. I am new to this porsche buying lark (first time etc so the naiieve comment was extremely accurate ;-) ), having spent many hours reading the other posts I get the impressions that there are a lot of crap 911 Turbos out there and I want to reduce the chance of not being able to sell it on in future and thus taking a bath on the depreciation (rather than just a shower!) Maybe the number of owners doesnt matter. Is it really the case that people change their cars every year? I finde it hard to believe anyone can ever get bored with these things. I drove one for the fist time a week ago and am still shaking!!
Anyway, back to the original question....... does anyone have a good one (# of owners doesn't matter!) that they would like to sell me?!?

Back to the original answers - just search the classifieds and go and look at a few - it's just like buying a house - the market dictates the price and the only way you get a feel for what you can get/afford is by looking and looking. I'm afraid you have to put a bit of effort in to this if you're serious about it and religiously search the classifieds - some people search for months till they find the car they like. I'm not in the market for a TT but from being a saddo and looking at all sorts you'll be nearer £50k for a car with sub 20k mileage and that spec - especially an 03 car. I may be mistaken but I believe the nav units were upgraded on the 03 cars to PCM2 and theremay have been other changes which will make it more pricey - the cheaper 02 cars will have PCM1 and maybe less standard extras. Someone else more in the know may be able to confirm this. Anyway, just get out there and get looking - that's half the fun IMHO. Just my 2p. P.S. By asking people on here if they have a good one is just like putting your trust in any private seller - don't take it for granted you're going to get a good recommendation on a public chat forum. Agree with edinandrew - all TT owners on the forum dont have a bad thing to say about any of there cars which i find hard to believe as at least once a week there is someone complaining about something thats gone wrong and wondering if the OPC warranty will cover it or not.I agree its a great car but a £90k car comes with £90k servicing & running bills,i would take an OPC example out for a test drive as a used benchmark like i did BUT found it impossible to find one used under £42k that felt as good - OPC's 111 point check usually weeds out the dodgy examples, taking someones word for it is not a good idea.
As for number owners? The more owners a car has the more different personalities, driving habits and more importantly your odds of one of the 5 owners having clocked the cars mileage increases.

Do you think there is a conspiracy perpetuated by the forums TT owners to feed misinformation about the model? It's as if you really want to read about TT owners slating the car.As for number owners? Perhaps it's just the case that the TT *is* actually a pretty decent car that doesn't have any major flaws?
If I don't like a car I will happily say so, as I'm sure most other owners on here would. There are also plenty on here who have owned a TT and now own something else. There would be no reason for them not to slate the car if they didn't enjoy their ownership experience. Yet you don't see any of that.
Are you going to be buying a 996 anytime soon?

All I commented on was that a private sale is a private sale regardless and that unless he gets it properly checked out then it wouldn't matter too much where the recommendation came from - some PH owners may not even know their car had a problem until it was checked and would sell it in good faith. I would love a TT but couldn't make use of the power in my day to day driving so can't justify ...... unless that is that most people on here are in the same position and just buy it because it is a turbo and they look good in it! (awaits flames aplenty)

My response was to the poster I quoted.
Just to reiterate, if the TT had any major gremlins, the information would be freely accessible from within this forums community. I agree that any potential owner should have a PPI carried out. I think it would be sheer madness not to.

I know I looked through past posts when I joined, I'm certain that many others have used it to their advantage.
Good luck in your hunt.

Someone else more in the know may be able to confirm this. the first was in the 2002 (51 onwards) model year when various bits n bobs were fitted, such as a cupholder in the centre dash and a glove box
2003 model year (52 onwards) saw introduction of the pcm2 sat nav unit and items fitted as standard such as auto wipers and auto dimming rear view mirrors.
as previos posters have said. get out there and look at a few cars. when i bought mine i spent ages trawling the classifieds because i wanted a decent spec. for a 90k car it is surprising how many have povery spec such as no nav, no heated seats etc.
i really think mine is there perfect spec. it was strange as i had seen it advertised for a while and never looked at it as it was silver and the last coluor i was looking for was silver.
nevertheless, with 50k burning a hole in my pocket i went and had a look and i was smitten. couldnt imagine wanting anyother colour now

so the moral of the story is:
1) get out there and look at some
2) trawl the classifieds regularly
3)dont get too hung up on colours (because you will discount some excellent cars)
4) dont discount OPC cars. their prices may look steep BUT they may also be SOR cars meaning there is a possible deal to do.
Good luck chum
