Just take it to a good indie with a rolling road and get it properly set up.Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the std TVR chip, but faults with the fuelling or ignition will obviously make the car perform less than perfect.Dont get fleeced unnecesarily with re-maps etc,as a good set up is all you need.
It's not worth getting a different ecu unless you are going to modify, then it's very worthwhile and much more cost effective and performance enhancing than mapping the dinosaur Lucas systemyessmile

when i first bought my car it had a misfire on it, i got the ecu tested and it was paggered, so i bought a replacement, still got the same mpg, same performance and so on. so unless your ecu is broken also, i don't think replacing it with a new standard one will help you in any way.
I'm currently doing a little bit of work on my car, part of this involves taking my old ecu out and replacing it wit a megasquirt standalone ecu, for £350 these have a lot more benefits than the standard one, such as: fully mapable fuel, ignition timing (get 2 sets of coil packs of a fiesta or so and you can get rid of the distributor), launch control, traction control, two stage nitrous control and so on.
should have it all done this week, I'll post a thread when its all done.
cheers,
Adam.

TVR Power in Coventry have a rolling road. they put my car on the rolling road and tried a whole range of their standrad chips. A worth while exercise that found that the chipin my car (4.0l TVR cat chip) produced the best power and torque and a slight advance on the ignition improved matters further.

I bought the ecu off piston heads for £60. The rolling road was £55 per hour for about an hour and a half.
